Yep, slipped liners are much easier to deal with
But.
Ok I give up, but I have more smiles pre mile.

Nowt wrong with the M51 but you could be into a whole lot of different problems with that set up BECM etc. I would not touch such a conversion. Thanks for all the replies but today i'm going to see a P38 thats had a HS 2.8 TGV engine conversion so hopefully all the M51 lump and its associated problems have been eliminated
Glutton for punishmentThank you for all the P38 advice its really appreciated but i have decided to go for an L322 4.4tdv8 not that there is anything wrong with a P38 but think its something i need to get out my system and i have had P38s but never an L322 yes i may regret it but until i try it i will never know

Hi All,
Thanks again for all the helpful replies so an update it's taken all this hivering and hovering to finally make my mind up and so tomorrow i am going to view the 2000 P38 DSE automatic i was initially going to see but didn't i think the L322 is a bit rich for my blood at the moment and am quite looking forward to viewing the P38 If i do buy it which i think is highly likely if all is as the seller describes i will be removing the viscous fan and all the a/c bits sorry purists but i want reliability and i know for a fact i will NEVER use the a/c in England pmsl not a chance Datatek could you please share your a/c fan cooling mod with me as i really want to do this mod but need an idiots guide to do so elecs are not really my thing the P38 i am going to view is on springs so another thing not to worry about thanks in advance
A stupid move to remove the aircon, it keeps the interior dry to the benefit of the BECM and other electronics, it is also very reliable. Damp is a killer for the electronics and connectors.Hi All,
Thanks again for all the helpful replies so an update it's taken all this hivering and hovering to finally make my mind up and so tomorrow i am going to view the 2000 P38 DSE automatic i was initially going to see but didn't i think the L322 is a bit rich for my blood at the moment and am quite looking forward to viewing the P38 If i do buy it which i think is highly likely if all is as the seller describes i will be removing the viscous fan and all the a/c bits sorry purists but i want reliability and i know for a fact i will NEVER use the a/c in England pmsl not a chance Datatek could you please share your a/c fan cooling mod with me as i really want to do this mod but need an idiots guide to do so elecs are not really my thing the P38 i am going to view is on springs so another thing not to worry about thanks in advance
"the P38 had dodgy elecs from day one so if removing some of these inherent gremlins to improve reliability" Removing the aircon will decrease reliability but go ahead and ruin the car if that is your wish.I appreciate your comments but i like uncomplicated there are some owners with a/c removed and running a/c fans for cooling with no problems i do like eas but not the extra worry that goes with it if it already has springs that's fine with me and lets face it there are lots out there running springs with no problems. I agree about cars being unreliable due to neglect and using cheap parts but i do know the P38 had dodgy elecs from day one so if removing some of these inherent gremlins to improve reliability and keep the cars on the surely this has to be a good thing

You could buy a pre-wrecked one with coils and no aircon for less money
The EAS has been trouble free on my daily driver for years now after I overhauled it. You must remember, a Range Rover is not a car, it's a hobby.
The aircon needs to be on ALL the time to protect the dodgy electronics from damp.Dantak,
You misunderstood my meaning i think ie if the eas system has been left in place except the airbags i would probably try to re fit new air bags but if its all been ripped out it would be a major job refitting everything i definitely don't want to ruin the car if as you say the a/c by removing the a/c will decrease reliability it will stay but i know it will never be used.I am not the wrecker of cars just the opposite in fact i have owned many P6/5/Sd1s Classic Rangies and a few P38s but never a diesel P38 yes i have put kenlowes on my previous classic cars and modified the exhaust systems for free flowing. I have also fitted efi and a Zf autobox to a P6 all with the help and advice of my late friend but never wrecked or changed anything outwardly ie changing the car from factory looks just mods to improve reliability my present P6 3500 is completely original except for the rear silencer i removed as it rotted off so straight piped it and it will also get a kenlowe but thats it if i came across on here as a wrecker i certainly didn't mean to
