totally +1 on this ^^^If it’s been serviced in line with JLR schedules, try consumer protection legislation. You might be able to argue it isn’t fit for purpose etc as it’s had such a significant failure at such a low mileage.

Bought used at 6 months from landrover dealership. Full service history and MOT by LR. Yep, totally working fine one day and wouldn't start the next.totally +1 on this ^^^

complex I am afraid and made more so by your not having bought it brand new. If you had then it would be "repair or replace" and far more clear cut. It may depend on who you bought it from. You say it had a warranty so presumably a trader of some sort.

I would ask a solicitor. If they Sell & Maintain LR products on behalf of the Land Rover company, they are (in my view) acting as LR's "Agent" and therefore represent the company to YOU the recipient.Pentland Land Rover. is this a service agent?

Thanks. It is older than 6 months. Apologies if I mistyped. We purchased it used at 6 months old. We have had it for 4 years so it is now out of warranty. But mileage less than 40,000. Good advice re asking for correspondence.Just checked, does look like a main dealer.
I'd be wanting to see copies of all correspondance bewteen them and Land Rover Technical.
I would also be suggesting they fit the new gearbox and take the old one back to Land Rover technical where they can then strip it down to find the fault. In the interests of both customer and manufacturer. At LR's expense. AS it appears to be a hidden fault then Land Rover should issue a recall and PO's should then be reimbursed.
If they don't do this then maybe mention of some dire negative publicity?
Or a Small Claims action against the dealer who may then put pressure on Land Rover to do the above. At 6 months old it should last longer than it has especially if serviced by them.

As such, Land Rover have a responsibility to you because of the "Agent & Principal" relationship I think.
If they try to fob you off, see a solicitor.
Problem is we are at their mercy. Car is in a garage 50 miles away from our home, where it broke down. Cant move it to another garage without it being towed and they have already racked up £600 charges to investigate the issue!!Have you had a second opinion from someone who actually knows what they are talking about?
No start.. has an inhibit switch broken? Might not throw a fault? Said switch might come pre assembled in a new transmission and 'fix' the problem.

I did understand how long you had had it. But by consumer law an item from new should last longer than this. If you buy it secondhand but from a dealer and all the servicing has been carried out a main dealer it will strengthen your case. Full diagnostics and further investigations revealed nothing. Apparently the LR garage went to Landrover Technical Assistance for help then came back today saying new transmission required.
100% absolutely.It would be interesting to see the logic of this diagnosis.
I can't see how a transmission issue can prevent the vehicle from starting. It's probably just an inhibitor switch which isn't closing.
I seriously doubt it's an issue which requires a replacement transmission.
My experience of LR techs is very bad, basically they were ****e on a simple issue.100% absolutely.
