Thanks to all the previous advice.

Background - 4 year old LR DS just out of warranty wouldn't start. Towed to Landrover.

Apparently needs a new transmission - at the cost of £4.5K!!!!

Thought they were taking the p*** but nope :(

Anyone else had this issue?

Sorry to hear of your troubles LR have some great tech, but out of warranty the costs charge like a rhino. Options I guess is a trans from a breaker and Indy hourly rates. Prolly too late to torch it now :(

Won't start so needs a new transmission!? Am i being thick???
Apparently they have performed diagnostics and further checks and had to escalate to Landrover Technical Assistance. This is what they have come back to us with :~(

Owned from new & full main dealer service history in your ownership?
Perhaps contact Land Rover & see if they're prepared to do anything helpful - even some sort of goodwill discount?

ETA Or have it recovered to a good indy & see what they come up with, bearing in mnd you'll need to pay the current bill or they won't release it. (Repairer's lien)

Purchased at around 6 months old with full service history from that dealership. I will be contacting Landrover. Such a nightmare. They cant even give us a courtesy car.

4 year old DS with less than 40,000 apparently needs a new transmission at cost of £4.5K!!!

Surely this is a defect. Even the LR garage its in said this is unheard of.

Ouch! Sorry to hear of this, it is truly awful.
If it has been regularly serviced by a main-stealer and its service record is impeccable then yes, I would say you should be leaning on the seller/maintainer about it.

Radio and lights came on. Full diagnostics and further investigations revealed nothing. Apparently the LR garage went to Landrover Technical Assistance for help then came back today saying new transmission required. I have contacted Landrover customer service but surprise surprise no response yet. It seems very odd that at under 40,000 miles, and just over 4 years old, it would need a full transmission. There were no warnings or anything, just wouldn't start one morning last week.
