Sorry to hi jack this thread slightly but does anyone know what size the bolt is on the drop arm? I have a gap in my socket set between 30 - 36mm but just want to check in case it is an imperial socket. Also for the puller to remove the arm do the run of the mill ones on ebay usually fit or is there a specific one?
Cheers

Craig

34mm usually on a 4 bolt box , as long as puller fits a chain wrench around legshelps to hold them on and i use a short half shaft and large lump hammer to hit the arm side to get it off hitting the side will remove it eventually today one took an hour on and off

This was my favourite job ever ...

Oh no it wasn't! .... I used an angle grinder carefully in the end

had this problem few years back
tried the hammer trick (did'nt get too energetic though as i tend to do seriouse damage when i get carried away :(:D )
so borrowed a puller from a mates garage and broke that too!!
ended up taking the steering box out and taking it into the said garage and getting them to do it

Mine has just failed on track rod end and drop arm not steering box wear as suspected.

Letting them do it so its receipted as for sale when it passes.

Not expecting a cheap bill

Like james says
Two leg puller on the tabs. I put cable tie around them to keep on.
Tighten up
Then I got a long bar and put it through the engine compartmentbetween the fuel pump and steering box. Rest it on the back heel part of the drop arm. Then hit the long bar(drift) with a nice club hammer.

It will come off. I've done two now. Second one i left the puller on overnight after wacking the fook out of it. next morning it was on the floor!!!

You can do it !!!
