what you recon .

sez if you drive it and damage it it will be shut.Dont look like theres much reason to damage it.looks fairly sturdy.

i spose the Q is - "do you care" - if you want it left open for you and others then drive it with care.

no . its a road seems hard based woundt drive it in wet, why shoundt i , dont think the odd 4x4 would turn it into a pay and play site,

surely its just the council not wanting to keep filling in ruts etc, but i bet tractors use it in wet weather.

go drive it then, can't see why you asked the question in the first place as you've clearly made your mind up already

just wanting an opion from others .where beter to get one on green laning than on here.

Its your legal right to pass and re pass an un surfaced highway such as this byway with vehicular rights. You pay road tax, it is your right to be able to drive it. It is also the councils responsibility to maintain the un surfaced highway. Although if is damaged by offroaders or greenlaners being idiots then they will close it until it is sutable to be driven again or until they TRO it for good. Drive it if you want to, don't spin your wheels if it gets boggy stop have a look to make sure its drivable if it not reverse to a safe place and turn around not in a farmers field. Compare the meercat, Simples! Jai

Unless it's a quagmire drive it. Back in the days when it would have been used by horses, carts and livestock, how muddy would it have been I wander? Would people have regarded the mud as damage or just a consequence of using the road? I don't think there is anything to be lost by driving it: If nobody drives it because they are worried it will be closed then it might as well be closed anyway.

driving a lane just because it's there doesnt provide the same level of challenge as climbing a mountain on that same basis, but maybe the OP has to ask his mum or post a question on the tinterweb asking what he should have for breakfast

and for what it's worth yes i do ramble
