Is it not possible to have a small electromagnet on the end so you can shove it in there then switch it on? Often thought of this when trying to retrieve nuts/bolts etc from the depths of an engine bay and sticking to everything on the way.

Yep, that would do just nicely. Im still going use the one I found though.:p I hope I never need it. Busted diffs but never a half shaft. Arrrgggghhh, wot did I say that for? :(
not in a landie,
but for my sins I was just 17, first car and all that,
was a MK1 consul convertable, doing a U turn on Brightons lower promanade
yes wheel spining
bang went halfshaft..
jacked it up, took out half shafts, then diff to get broken bit out,
had to ask local coppers where local brakers were,
got on a bus,
got effin raped by brakers for halfshaft - cost me a £5 then - was 48 years ago !!
bus back to seafront, put it all back together including cups of diff oil I saved,
drove home.......:)

NEVER will I forget the embarrasement from being asked "whats up" by hundreds of holiday makers walking the seafront in blazing hot sunshine..

broke lots of bits racing but thats expected,
but then I wernt dressed in a suit !!!!!
