keep it cool, heat will demagnetise it.

would it not be easier to glue/stick it to the end, or buy a magnet with a hole in it??
Think I will end up gluing it. Its only cos I found it at work that im asking. I probably wouldn't go out and buy one but handy to take off roading and doesn't take up any space.

telescopic magnet works fine. got BB's broken halfshaft out with one.
;)
must admit to having two of then, a smaller one on a radio telescopic ariel type of thing, and another larger one - very strong magnet glued to a thicker type of telescopic wand, works very well for what I`ve ever used it for,
but as op sez, sticks to everything as you try to use it..alli tube would be good to "place it" though

Bonded into the end of a placcy tube might be good!

What was it fixed to? The magnet, not the broken half shaft? ;)
I saw magnets for sale at Peterborough but never paid em any real attention.
radio aerial type thingy. the half shatft had snapped big stykeee into several pieces. but got em all out.

Just been out to the garage. Magnet is round and measures 25mm across and 10mm thick. It still sticks to a saw blade through 20mm of ply wood but I haven't given it the weight test yet.

I used a cb aeriel to poke it out from the unbroken side, then a lump of bent welding rod to pick it up enough to pull out the stub axle. made a cage that went thru sub and over the top of broken half shaft, then turned it 180 degrees so it scooped it unto the cage, then pulled it out.
