Can any tell me or think of a reason my series 3 has both style of wind shield mounts. I never noticed till watched a video about the differences between a 2 and a 3. From what I can tell...I have a 3 bulkhead.

That's because you have a series 3? The only s2 bit in the pic is the bonnet

That is a bit weird as the S2 and S2a has those flat outer bits and as said you also have the wider hinges just inside them , don’t know

The outer bit looks like it's part of the door top? Mirror mount?

agreed, looks a little low to be the windscreen mount, some closer pics of the area would certainly be beneficial.

It welded to windshield sash side.
Maybe it was almost a good idea for a mirror at one time. Just had me nervous it was some kind of Frankenstein bulkhead refit

My best guess is that those outer brackets were added by someone competent in order to support the weight of a overhanging roof rack - the sort that stick out over the bonnet.

That makes a lot of sense. I know the previous owner used it hunting, camping etc. Also it has the same type of brackets welded to the rear bumper. A plausible answer for brackets would be some kind of home make rack system.
