Looking to replace my door tops, would you go all out on galvanised glazed units at £200? The ones I have don’t have original glass so not worth building from scratch. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks
I also bought the Rocky Mountain door tops. Solidly built - one of the best things I bought for it and they look original unless you look very closely.
Thanks for the replies, saved me some money on the standard Brit part offerings. I can’t see stock or a price for the Rocky Mountain type on their website. Or do I need to open my eyes?
Thanks Kev12. They are quite expensive at £400 but I guess worth it in the log run. I’d be looking for the correct glass to build those and only do it the once.
Seems a shame they don't do new glass too, an extra 100 quid isnt much on top of 400 and would be much nicer than 40 or 50 year old scratched glass in shiny new tops
The cheapies probably last around 5 years but could do more with regular removal and painting. At £35 that's £7 per year per door top. I like the Rocky Mountain ally ones but at £200 they have to last 30 years to pay back. I suspect they last 50 which means they make good sense if you are aged 40 and under!
I have ally door tops , well pleased it’s not just about how long they last but also the chew on changing seals and glass , i reused the original glass which cleaned up nice
Thank you everyone for your replies and advice.
I’m thinking of going for these at £200 for the pair. I will zinc primer and top coat plus fill the cavity with a good spraying of clear waxoyl
Thank you very much. I ordered them last night direct from their website rather than through eBay.
I’ll post some close up pics and a review when I get them. It may help others when deciding what to buy.
The SP ones are well built i fitted a set of series style ones to my 90 last year but they still flex when closing the doors but on my 2a i'm rebuilding atm i will fit Rocky mountain ones as they are supose to close tight against the door seal instead of being pushed out by the door seal which means you have to slam the door shut and with the rocky mountain ones they shut tight but without slamming so will see once i fit them and report back but will be a few months as i've just started on the bodywork
