Hi

After a flat refusal from my insurer on a Ronbox 2e can you let us all know:-

  • What box you have fitted?
  • Who is your insurer?
  • What is your age?
  • Was there an increase in premium for the mod?
or
  • If your insurer doesn't allow it who are they
Mine is Axa. No mods at all allowed on fuel system.

Thanks Guys

direct line got a little excited when i asked, doubled premium AND excess up to £500 so I decided not to do it.

trust me that age was not a factor, it was more about what it would do to the bhp figure. Even though it would be restoring an aging engine to its former glory, they still wanted to load the premium.

Restoring the engine to what it puts out in standard tune on the old 320d BMW's!

So not really worth it financially to have a synergy, but worth it if you are just interested in the better performance and money is no object.

according to Rons website ,on the "guides, info and faqs"page,he lists known insurance company hikes,he mentions that direct line add 10/20% max,so Optimus Prime ought to try again and hope to speak to someone else. He(Ron)also offers to write to insurers if nec and even limit power increase to suit their needs.

The other option of course is to forget to tell them ;-)

I agree with rhodie too. After all, Ron goes to a lot of trouble making the loom look factory and if fitted tidily, only those 'in the know' would notice any signs of it...

Anyway, we oniy fit them to save on fuel costs, don't we?

then they just might forget to pay out

If you have an insurance certificate, the insurers WILL pay out for third party losses in the event of a claim no matter what you may have done to the car. This is a legal requirement they can not and will not wiggle out of.
If you have undeclared mods, they may...and I say may, even this is not certain...not pay out for your own damages if you are insured fully comp.

However, lets be serious here for a minute. You crash your car....if its minor, you exchange details with the other party and everyone carries on. If you properly spank it then they may send an inspector to check the car, who is more interested in deciding if it is an economic write-off or not. If you have a supercharger sticking out the bonnet, racing slicks and a roll cage, he may decide that perhaps its been modified and requires further action, but he is not going to be poking around the wiring loom to your fuel rail and MAF looking for wiring that is in slightly different trunking to the original stuff. He probably couldn't point out these components if you ask him to anyway - he will not be a Freelander specialist, just a general vehicle inspector.
If the Synergy unit gave the kind of power gains that mean you could come off a roundabout in a 4-wheel drift, clip a kerb and barrel-roll it 5 times down the high street before going through the window of an antiques shop, then attracting that kind of attention might warrant deeper investigation, but the rear world gains from a Synergy just are not going to be noticeable to anyone, even a crash investigator, after you have had a corner to corner knock with someone pulling out of Tesco's carpark.

:behindsofa:

For the second time in a week, the word "PARANOIA" comes to mind !!!

If anyone's that neurotic about it, extend the Synergy loom and re-route the wiring through the bulkhead, remove the dash and hide the Synergy box in the bowels of the interior !!!
When I think of all the P38's driving about that have been chipped (Diesels) and have 22" Stormer wheels fitted, the air suspension removed and replaced with coils, I find it hard to believe that every one of them have informed their Insurance.
It's not as though those that have the Synergy and other tuning mods fitted want to emulate the Beemer performance and are "Boy Racers"....In a Hippo ????:car::hysterically_laughi
For heavens sake, stop panicking..........otherwise go and buy an Audi R8, Beemer 740, Porsche etc. etc.

:bolt:

Well I decided to tell my insurance, I'm insured with elephant, I'm 25 and I fitted the 2a box. For the extra £50 it added to my insurance I didn't see the point in not telling them. It's more piece of mind more than anything.

Well 17 replies and only Aaron has told the insurance and paid the extra! Anybody else out there insured? Or are we all going to Elephant next year?
