And does anyone know what it's for? I've got a short circuit somewhere that I'm trying to find and I'm suspicious this header joint K109 might have something to do with it, the trouble is I've no idea what it is or where it is.

I've done a search and seen a few people ask but no one responded.

Any help is appreciated guys.

It's the Haynes manual electrical drawings I'm looking at mate but it doesn't tell you anywhere in the manual where it is.

Mines is a 98 reg L series Diesel.

When I indicate left (but not right, right is ok) the fuse for my indicators, hazard warning lights and charging system (F8) blows. When I take out the fuse for the interior lights, radio and diagnostic socket (F14) I can use my left indicator fine without the fuse for them blowing but when I indicate left the radio, and interior lights flick on and off every time my left indicator flicks on and off so there's something short circuiting somewhere :(
 
According to haynes the earth is "Engine Compartment RH Rear" and that circuit ...

Just looking further into it in manwell and I'm not going to comment any further, I haven't worked on an L series and it looks like it might be a bugger to sort.

It might be worth pulling single fuses out and triggering the fault so that you can at least isolate the circuit thats causing the problem.

According to haynes there are about 180 assorted wires running to and from it.

I don't think it's the fuse box it's self.

It earths mainly to 4 (Behind centre console RHS).

Sometimes to 5 (Engine compartment LH front).

Sometimes to 6 (Behind LH rear trim panel).

It isn't the engine or body fuse box.

It isn't the ECU.

My money is on the BFO connector block behind the main fuse box.

First question would be, what does BFO stand for? :eek:

I'm going to try and remove my fuse box and have a look behind it. I'm also going to remove the centre console and have a look at earth strap 4.

From what I can gather there are a number of header joints (multi connectors into the loom) all are called K109 but if you look at them on the Haynes diagrams they are numbered.
You would be looking for connector(s) 285/286.

Example ....C291 is mentioned here.

There are numbers for specific types of connection and giggle search for K109 brings Defender, Disco and my avatar up...

Didnt have much idea about them till tonight - when it clicked with me right or wrong ...but going by sparkyjohn in the link for faulty brake lights....

Haynes Page 12.26 Wiring diagrams, Key to Item 9 = Header joint K109 so the one in the brake lights section is numbered 291 with what looks like the wire terminal numbers ie 291-17, 291-19 etc.

Going by this the op would be looking for connector 286/285 which is in the diagram below (indicator and hazards).

Not saying Im right but there is very little about these and any confirmation that we are on the right track would be great :)
