Good afternoon gents i,m after some help. I,m in the market for a Landrover 90 and have found a vehicle within my price range. I,ve went a veiwed the vehicle and i'm test driving it tommorrow. Problem is there is no paperwork with the vehicle apart from the V5. As its running on a D plate i,m hopeful that someone may of come across the vehicle in the past.

Had it running and the V8 sounds sweet, however we'll see what the test drive proves tommorrow. The vehicle has had its rear cross memeber changed and the chassis has ben patched, but looks and feels solid. (hammer wouldn,t go through the usuall spots). Its rough inside and has had a working life. Rear door is shot but both side doors are repairable.

I,ve worked with landrovers since i was 17 but there all diesels. All the V8s were phased out some years back.

So what do you think, is it worth a punt, i,m just dubious due to lack of history:confused:.

Any help would be gratefully recieved!

cheers vinnie

I would avoid it like the plague.

Why would you tart a vehicle up that much but not bother changing the rear door or chassis or have any vehicle history to accompany it?

Looking at the inadequate winch, winch mount and roof rack mounts and the flimsy looking rock slider mounts I would say it is a bodge job from start to finish that is being concealed under a shiny new coat of paint.

Cheers gents, the paint work aint that new, had a good look around, its still has blue showing around the sills and interior. It has been used for groundskeeping at some stage . Can just make out the old company logo on the rear tub.

One of the reasons i'm looking at this 90 is that he,s giving me PX on my bmw and paying above the list price! (think as no one is intrested in a 3.5 v8 lpg conversion)

Working on the vehicle my self isn,t an issue ( i work with winch's and tanks in the army) but welding is above me. So it would be self help. I,m after a 4x4 i can work on without ecu,s and heavy electrics controling the engine. ....also the boss (wife) wont let me spend crazy money on a decent 300tdi...

Link if it works.

having looked round the 90 the paint isn,t that new, on closer inspection you can see the old ground keeper company contact info. Lookind inside the cab and under the bonnec tyou can see where it was blue before it was sprayed. The cheap winch and roof rack would be binned. This is more a diy car that i can repair and improve. No ecu,s and computers fecking it up!......I work on winchs and cranes within the army so i,m happy to turn my hand to working on the 90. However welding is above me.

Any thoughts on the lpg conversion in it?

ah caterick! been a while since i were up there :) good luck with getting one.

To be fair, if that red one is the right price, i wouldnt be too fussed about history or bolt on this and that. The money saved can go for some servicing, extras etc.

Mate its 1500 quid plus the part ex on the 530, which the auto gearbox is heading out and needs 4 tyres for its MOT come december.

So what ever way i go i,m spending money either byuing a twenty year old v8 on carbs:D..............or fixing a 3 litre stright six:D motorway burner........plus 3 litres to back wheels in north yorkshire is a no go!

I,m also a computer biff hence why i have 2 posts above that are similiar and the hyperlink dosna work........i,ll stick tae recoverying stuff!

drove past a yard at kirby lonsdale today that had a few ex MOD things in, landies, dumper trucks,432......see if you can track it down

I have had lpg on 2 v8z now never had any problems, both EFI's though, mine both run well on it, what makes the lpg and how big are tanks? still got petrol tanks?

Here lies the problem there is no paperwork for the lpg i,ve been online since i looked at the rover since thursday doing my homework. Once i go back tommorrow i,m going to track down the maker. But it does have both tanks. Lpg is in the back under a poorly constructed checkerd box. Fuel tank under the right hand side. Someone did look after it and must of used it often.

Having worked on Carbs, FIPS and now ECU,s in large diesel engines , there is something to be said about keeping it simple and leaving out the electrics! I,ve asked for a LPG certificate along with the mot certificatei go ahaed and buy it.... I,m now reading up on Double electric cooling fans as the Viscous fan has been removed!

most insurance company's want to see lpg certificate, or ask of you have it in my case. Find controls for switch between lpg and petrol, make sure runs good on both, my first one i didn't check like a idiot, got home, switched it to petrol and wont go, fuel needle at empty went to fill tank up and it was full, so it never ran on petrol started straight on LPG never had any problems just would have been peace of mind to know if lpg runs out :) worth getting lpg serviced and checked, as the pressure release valves need to be changed every 10 years i think

Cheers bencorkill,
The owner of the garage wasnt present on thursday just his partner and he wasnt much help. We had it running on both then stopped it and it wouldn,t restart, think was down to me wea my heavy handedness! But there was no information on the system. It must of worked as the 90 was last MOT,ed this January and the roads tax ran out in July.
As I,ve mentioned i,ve been glued to the internet researching this stuff. Dont want to trade in what is essentialy a roadworth BMW and be stuck wea a 90 that needs not only the LPG serviced but also the carb setting up.
How do you find the Lpg economy wise? does it pay for itself so to speak. The 530 gets less than 19mpg in town or short journeys (it was bought as a motorway car) and my diesel gets almost 40mpg. I work with the military Wolfs so i know what i,m getting myself into drive wise!

That 90 was for sale on eBay around may time when I bought the one I have now,

If I rember rightly it dint sell I thought it was to much money, carn rember the price tho,

Yeah that where i found it and then on Autotrader. I,ve bartered wea the owner and as long as it passes its MOT and has a LPG certificate i,m game. The selling point is him taking my BMW. The garage has had it since june ish time i think he said.

If its been for sake since may there's a good chance there's somthing wrong with it, make sure yo know what your looking at.

i work with military vehicles daily and know ma way round a landrover just not the V8,s . I think its been sat as you say as the garage are after to much money. They offered it to me cash as is fur 3 grand, think they,ve stuck them selves. The rest of the yard was full of family cars then this sat in the corner!
