Do you regret buying a Freelander?

Bought mine (an 06 TD4) a couple of months ago and I love it. Didn't expect so many annoying niggles that come as standard though!! Just about worked my way through them and I await the next one with great eagerness..............
 
I've grown to like it more than my previous Yeti, which was an excellent car.

The Freelander 1 facelift is more comfortable and way better off road as standard and even better now I have given it more ground clearance. I could have increased the Yeti ground clearance with a 20mm lift kit and slightly bigger tyres, but nothing compared to my Freelander.

It's not as fast or economical or has as much torque as my Yeti either, which had around 175bhp & 400Nm torque.

But I still prefer the Freelander.

And yes, a pointless thread on here, as almost all of us love our Freeelanders.
 
I love my old Freelander. I love working on it. I was given it and would not be able to afford a Disco or Defender. But I love my Freelander. Yes they have problems. But that's half the fun. :)
 
Don't buy. Girlfriend will gone, friends will be laugh, and you will look stupid on photos lol

I am also looking for some increase in low down torque and increased power , what tuning box have you got fitted - will it be ok for a 2009 FL2 ?

The FL2 can be remapped or you can get various tuning boxes for it.

Just google diesel tuning.
 
Can't decide on my car..... after discos and series motors it's much nicer to drive but it's far from fault free some major faults too rear chassis was split vcu was fubared the slave cylinder went 4 days after buying it (what a pig that is on a td4) the other stuff has been dealt with now too

Things left to sort are a few intermittent rattles from off side front that relate to engine speed. But I'm struggling to find what is causing them I just hope it's not iRd problems

I think once you get past the fact that it's not a "proper" 4x4 then.it could be a good awd
 
It's better than a proper 4x4 :)
For my purposes anyway!

I'm just about to buy my third one! :crazy:
 
I regret it (kinda). Too many issues, but when they are sorted out, wife will have a nice little Hippo (she LOVES it). I think I should've talked her into getting a Disco. I think Discos are easier to wrench on (I know my L322 is!)
Watching her smiling when she talks about her Hippo, makes it all worth it.
 
Do I regret getting the Freelander? No, at least by way that's it's a better car than I had given it credit & has so far done what I've asked of it off road so far ... Yes in that there's far less accessories compared to other Land Rovers. The TD4 commercial is ideal for me, as it's a second vehicle for purely my activities, but, if affordable next time, then a second vehicle will be a 110

However, it wasn't my 1st choice, which was a Nissan Pathfinder (due to needing a 7 seater & still have a boot to put a buggy & weekly shopping in), unfortunately, my Mother-in-law who is disabled, struggled to get in & out of them ... If ! had to drop back to 1 car only, then I'd certainly be looking into whether or not we could have 1 adapted with a swing out seat for her.

Upon deciding the Pathfinder wasn't an option, my good lady suggested we get another Ford Galaxy (to replace our previous 1, which was on it's last legs) & a smaller buggy suitable from birth to keep in the car & then keep the big buggy for at home/walking around, I could then get myself a cheap 4x4 to do my airgun coaching & other shooting activities.

Unfortunately, the Defender was too expensive for my remaining budget. most of the Discoveries in my budget were stupidly high mileage (for what I wanted) & usually requiring quite a bit of work for the MOT ... I didn't want a Range Rover (not many classic diesels about), certainly not a P38 or later & nothing Japanese, although I was very nearly tempted with a Dodge Ram 3500 V10 quad cab just within my budget.
 
we love our freelanders my wife has had hers for 12 years I had my first one for 10 years and now on my second one love them although I want a series as well, for the weekends
 
when I first moved to Spain it was with Terrano 2s a LWB and SWB great 4x4s bombproof but not ride friendly. Got first 2002 TD4 for wife a little work turned it round she loves it.
Then picked up for buttons a 1999 L series that was my daily drive, constant moaning by daughter and another TD4 2002 found for her same thing few small jobs no problems Sold Terry,LWB and L series.
Sadly due to death of a pal have just inherited a 2003 TD4 so now have three in family two LHD one RHD
