Do you regret buying a Freelander?

........ dont think you're gonna get cheap ones! Mine cost AUD$2800 with tyres (was a package deal) its the PCD fitment that makes them a bit rare so expensive. They are around tho. Ebay is the best bet ;)
 
Many years ago when I had more money than sense I bought a brand new P-reg TDi Disco. It was the worst, most unreliable car I've ever owned (and that includes old vans I've picked up for 50 quid). I finally threw it back at the dealer and got an S-reg Freelander on a 3-year contract. Never went wrong, drove it to Turkey and back, towed the big trailer from work, gave it back after 3 years because it wasn't worth buying at the contract price and anyway it was really too small for me. Two (better) Discos later I bought a used 07 Fr2. Which may be the best car I've ever owned. Yes I like defenders too, but they're not that hot on continental motorways and the FR2 can easily cope with the off-roading I do. Was great in the Belgian snow this winter as well! Yippee I'm in love!

Would i want a defender? No, Imagine doing a 300 mile round trip in one of those. I come from suffolk so i know the types of people who drive such vehicals. Most of them have 3 thumbs and a sister/aunty/mother all in one. They are over priced too.

It's fair to say the Freelander, Disco and Defender all has a place within Land Rover, the Defender is a work horse but isn't built for comfort, it's a true Farmers vehicle, the disco is for pulling a horse box and offers comfort whilst the Freelander is for the normal motorist wanting that bit more than a car can offer. All work well in the snow, all work well off road, the Freelander isn't the best by any feet, but it's better than some.

Some Defenders look the biz, some Disco's look really old, but it's fair to say the Freelanders havent been passed by and if anything they're getting better and better.
 
Nowt wrong wif my doors and I can't hear air and see light through them like some other sort of vehicle I could mention but the name escapes me..... hummmm

If I wanted to learn about a TD4 I'd have bought one, me I'm a petrol man, if that means I've gotta get my hands dirty at times then so be it, either way still easier to work on than a TD4.
 
No regrets, love my 2006 TD4 freestyle. Starts first time every time and got me everywhere I needed to go last winter in the north of Scotland.

Found a local garage thanks to another forum member that gave it a full service and once over with clean bill of health.

Best car I've had.
 
I paid £500 4 years ago for a 1.8 with 55k on it,with a blown head gasket.Put it together properly with all the mods.Apart from two rotors in the dizzy failing its been fine.Comfy,practical etc - better in the snow/ice etc than ALL the othe LR's I've had except my IIA.
What do you want for £500 ?
 
I have a 1.8 XEI 1999 with 120,000 on the clock and it just sailed through it MOT, only advisory, handbrake needs adjusting! Admittedly I have fitted a new transfer box which was a pain but it's given me thousands of miles of happy, comfertable motoring. I don't regret buying it one little bit. I even enjoy the abuse the old defender boys give me, keeps me on my toes!
 
the wife regreted it but after six months she asked me for it back and now loves it she has a 1800cc 5 door so then I had to go and buy my own a TD4 auto now had it for 8 years it has done 162.000 miles I keep it well seviced and change all the filters is a must ,i have always loved LRs and intend to get a tax exempt series soon I HOPE!
 
It's early days, at nearly 1 month and 3,200 miles, but it's currently my second favourite car of all time and I've had more cars than I care to remember!

So, if it's in at number 2, what could possibly have been better?
 
My 54 TDi HSE Freelander is the worst car i haver brought, and i've had a few cars in my time, i will never touch landrover again, from day one it just seems to be constantlly going wrong, a piece of **** IMO
 
i have had my 1800 freelander for about 8 weeks now had it serviced and a oil leak fixed runs very well and it is very comfey .i just keep my fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong with it .the wife loves it..

2 and 2/3rd's months and 8,000 miles and it's bl**dy brilliant.

I'm hanging on to this one for as long as I can!
