Yeah, your just cost you £700 to fix, the same on a P38 would have come in at £160:rolleyes:

£160 for a new pump, sensor and complete strut ?

Either way yours is still only a p38

Nothing in comparison sorry.

Yes there more expensive to fix, but there a better car !
Hah :D

This is easy.
P38' had a dse manual on a 98 plate. Spent fookin thousands on the bastarrrd . Nice ride, ood of road but built buy muppets.
Now I own a 2006 vogue l322, it's like errrrrr, so much better.
Had my l322 now for 12 months, only had to replace ignition barrel.
The p38 after 12 month cost me 5 grand.

You're deluded by image, the early L322 is just a bigger uglier more expensive pile of **** with loads more to go wrong.

No struts on a P38, a new airbag front or rear ( and they rarely explode)for around £60, sensor £60 and a compressor overhaul kit less than £30:p:p:p

Yay !!!
I know the L322 is less problematic !

Just got to get datatek to buy one now so he can stop cussing the L322's as he would relise how much better they really are !! Lool

You jest, I have 2 mates with early TD6 L322's, nothing but grief. By comparison my P38 has been reliable and cost peanuts in parts over the last 3 years.

I'm not getting involved....

I loved my P38 and would still have it and cherish it, but the L322 came up and was too good to pass up....

If someone put a P38 and an L322 infront of me and said take your pick and we'll fuel it, repair it, service it everything....all you have to do is drive it....I have to say I'd choose the L322....sorry, I love the P38....but the L322 just pips it to the post....

Sorry Datatek and Wammers, I know I have commited cardinal sin, But I work hard in my job, and even though it will stretch the cheque book on repairs....I just had to treat myself....

Do the P38 purists still luv me????

I am not a P38 purist. I would love a L322 but i think anyone who swaps a 2002 P38 for a 2003 L322 needs his bumps feeling. A 2005 model when the new design was finally sorted yes maybe. But the early ones were trouble and very expensive to repair even by P38 standards. It would be like jumping out of a pan of hot water that is cooling down, into the fire the pan has just been removed from.

well i own both p38 and l322 and dont get me wrong they are both great cars , but the l322 is more comfortable, smoother, faster, more responsive,
goes around corners better, etc . this is my thoughts on the 2 models and is based on v8 petrol engines, the diesel l322s have the gm gearbox which seems to be crap but the v8 has the zf which is far better, also the diesels {apart from the v8 diesel } tend to be more expensive to buy ,noisier, slower, less power, and the cost of diesel is more than petrol.
all vehicles have their faults and the newer they are the more electronics etc to go wrong , but i would choose the l322 every time

Oh dam, I've started something here, for the record I think my 1998, 2.5 DSE will be staying in my possession. Hey everybody thanks for all your advice and input into my post.

Ive had both 2000(x) P38 and now a 54 plate Vogue L322 LPG.. I wouldnt go back to a P38 for anything.. As every ones saying P38 very dated and the Threads speak for themselves.. You wouldnt regret it im sure as for the cost of parts i dont see hardly any differance i.e. fuel pump L3222 £50, Water Pump £70 complete .. filters, oils, plugs etc all much the same..

You laddie are part of the "must have" consumer generation, you need a big car to boost your image, you've probably got a tattoo to go with it.

For me my daily drive is a means of getting from A to B comfortably, safely, and at as fuel cost I can afford. It also has to be able to climb the hill in the snow, be cheap to buy and have all the info necessary available to fix it. If it had been fixable, I would still have my Hyundai Galloper, now that was slow.

I have never bought a new car with my own money in my life, but I did have enough cash to pack up work at 55 and buy my water mill in France. You sonny will most likely be working until you are 70 especially if you waste money on buying image motors with your own cash.
As Wammers said in his reply, the early L322's are crap, 2006 on are better but expensive, they do nothing that my P38 will not do at a fraction of the cost.

Oh and I buy my parts from the UK so the same price as you pay:D

How to the point was that. Realism rules OK. :):)

I think people are starting to compare apples and oranges. The original post asked about possible purchase of a 2003 L322.

If someone offered me a 2009 TDV8 for £10K my P38 would be down the scrappers before my heat seaters had warmed up. But a tired out 2003 L322 with space ship mileage for lots more money than a low mileage 2002 P38. That's taking 'keeping up with the Jones's' a step backwards.

The best deal I could get on an L322 was a 2003 showing over 90k, the cost to change from my P38 was over £6k. Cost to change to our 2002 P38 with 40k on the clock was under £3k and looked after probably won't be worth a lot less than the tired L322 will be in 5 years.

As has been said, as you get older even if you do chose cash burners like RR's there's no need to throw it away on something that's the latest model when in real terms its still an old worn out motor.

Funny how serious some people get on here.
I don't want to fight about who's is better !
As long as we're all happy with our motors that's all that matters.

:)

well gentlemen just a few thoughts might be a bit morbid
you only live once , if you want something have it and enjoy it,
no good being the richest man in the grave yard
, what ever you own is only yours while you are alive

Will be retiring at 50 and will be buying a house on a Cornish beech!

Let's not get personal lads! Cause some one else has always got more than the next man,etc etc.lol

If you can afford it then buy it.
