If you read through far enough the bloke confesses to it being a wind up (no pun intended)
Bloody good joke and totally believable.

:D

You know, its when I re looked at the picture,
I noticed it was welded on the bench,
being held up one end by "bits"
with no hope of ever going back into a diff case,
its then it gives the game away eh?
Indeed, a very good post by big ginger,
even better post by the joker in question....:D

not entirly as if welded square woud fit back as diff carrier is held by caps
I know what your saying james m,
but the chances of getting it spot bollock right is very slim mate, more so as its not clamped, it`ll move a bit after welding anyway?
another point is, why take it out of a diff case just to weld it, you`d only do that to renew bearings,
and you`d never do that then weld it up eh..
orf subject slightly,
when i once raced mini`s on a tight budget, a mate of mine "done" a mini diff for me to try..
he doubled the endfloat washer/bushes on the 4 planet gears,
by all acounts a right bar steward to refit as they were over tight, but gave the impression of a locked diff, but would "let go" when under a lot of pressure.
(instead of breaking the drive shafts!)
I never really liked locked diffs on front wheel drive so took it out after a few races though, as I used a dab of left foot braking when racing on the small ovals..:blabla:

My old one. I now its an old tread.
