I am currently in Abersoch on the Llyn peninsula and I think I may have the early signs of distributor issues. I will be driving 120miles back to Cuddington on Sunday. I have just checked my spares kit under the seat and my points and condenser are not with me. Would anyone know where I could purchase any of the following spares; points / condenser / dizzy cap, electronic conversion, or even a distributor?
It may be a case of cleaning everything and crossing my fingers.
Many thanks.

With the weather in North Wales as it is right now I'd be drying out all dizzy and ht components.

Thanks goonarmy. I’ve just cleaned the cap and rotor, sprayed with electrical switch cleaner. It ran nice and smooth. I’m feeling a bit vulnerable without spares and the run back. The points don’t look like they have much meat left on them. School boy error.

Hi, I cleaned the cap and rotor and set off. I had an unplanned hard shoulder stop on the A55. Another clean and replace and it started again. I got off and took the slow roads home. After another half a dozen stops and starts I made it home eventually.
I’ll always make sure I have a full kit of spares for the ignition system when I go out again.

Convert it to electronic ignition and not have to worry about points again:)

I guess I am a bit old fashioned - with points it is fairly simple to identify faults (simple test light etc) but do accept that electronic ignition can cope better with a worn distributor shaft (e.g. inconsistent firing).
Also I am not sure which system is ideal as the wrong combination of parts (e.g. coil) can cause problems with an electronic system!

I think I’ll parts kit the current distributor and then remove it as a spare under the seat. I think I’ll get a complete elec distributor and coil to fit. Do you have any recommendations. I see they vary from £60 to £250. Is it a case of you get what you pay for?
