I've sourced a window leak in the rear offside passenger door window. Despite opening and closing it with the window controller, and despite it appearing to fully close, whenever we travel at motorway speed (60-80mph) - there is a very audible wind whistling.

It is actually coming from the where the top corner meets the black part of the frame where the fixed part of the door window is (at the very top of the door). It's only on the one side too.

When you hold your fingers near this joint, whilst travelling at these sorts of speeds, you can really feel the air coming in. Also - whenever you pressure wash water on this window, at this joint, it always penetrates the joint and drips down the inside of the glass.

Now it's not a major problem, as rain water doesn't penetrate it - however, I would like to to fix it. The only thing I can think of is that the seal from the inside of the window frame is knackered and poorly fitting when the glass is fully raised, thus allowing this small gap - but before going to the expense of buying a new window seal, is there anything else it can be?

Can't find another mention of this particular problem - only alpine and sunroof leaks - any help / suggestions, are very much appreciated.

Mine is exactly the same and the same window, I thought it might be the frame distorting slightly? The window isn't dropping at all but If I push 'up' on the window button, the window will always move a fraction. I've had a look at the seal and it seems ok.

I do know the frames are replaceable, good news really as mine have started to develop little spots of rust, perhaps they are weakening the frame and it's warping???

Hi broadoakboy - you sound like a kindred spirit!

I would guess that frame isn't warped (only a guess) as when I look at it from all angles, it all looks straight.
The only difference with mine being that when I press the up button on the window controller,
It won't move at all and seems to be fully closed.....

I take it your problem still exists too?

I had the same problem, i was told to bend in the top of the frame with the window down (i didnt in the end as it looked as it should), i was told it was the glass not going up far enough (it wasnt, i measured and compared), i was also advised to change the complete door seal (i did, and nearly cry'd when i got to 70 and the noise hadnt gone!!).

In the end, after a long motorway run with wind noise in my ear, i found the solution... Lower the window, run your finger in the top channel the glass sits in... You find a seal, pull this seal from its place and hopefully you will find a gap. I simply tugged the seal slightly to enable a flush fit (that removes the gap) into the corner of the frame. Hey presto, no more noise!!

I've cured it.

When I actually bothered to open my eyes and look at the damn window seal (seated within the black frame), I eventually noticed that the single piece (that is adjacent to the fixed pane), has slipped down about an inch within the frame itself.

It was simple as pulling the top half of the seal out (with the window down), and pulling it up slightly more than an inch, and then pressing back home into place, so that it was extremely flush and tight against the seal at the top.

God - I feel like one of those mincers that should be driving a gaylander...... (I need a wash!) ;-( What a total tool.

Perhaps i'll check mine!!
