Greenpeace really need to know the facts, Ignorance is the main problem.

Because of the areas of manufacture and the overal co2 released during production (shipping parts material sourcing etc) and life cycle of a vehicle, modern land rovers are more enviromnetal than Prius' etc. Its not all about MPG in the fight for environmental credentials.

Yeah, agreed - for the time being, those hybrids are all one big sham.

As it stands, the overall most environmentally friendly vehicles that we drive in the UK are probably the small efficient diesel vehicles that are imported from the continent as they combine low production negatives with low fuel consumption and a relatively long product life expectancy...

If the UK truely wanted an 'eco-car' so to speak, we would build one ourselves.

it seems to me that some companys r going backwards of late such as allways making pantyliners to fit any underwear without the wings n stuff they were raveing on about last year
wouldnt it be nice if they built a new landy without all the plastic bumpers n **** on the outside went back to the old shape and made a decent interior
in short why not a brand new vehicle exactly like a series 3 with all its versatility and charm such as swappable cabs roofs and such but with the comfort handleing and capabilities (ie 90mph easy on the motorway) as the disco 1
as for the engine fweck off all the ecu ****e such as the one in the p38 that sh1ts itself when wet and bring back the simple way of running an engine (eg clockwork and timing chains ) and nowadays its even possible to convert a diesel engine to run on lpg and just make it a standard thing on evry new landy to keep greenpeace quiet also make the diesel engines a little more robust so they can be run on bio diesel or veg oil without fooking them up so basicaly they can be run on whatever we have to hand or can afford to put in them its not rocket science im a thicko who dropped out off highschool early and even i know what i would want out of a landy
ill be following this thread with interest to see what else turns up

Or we wouldn't come up with f**king retarded ideas like the scrapage scheme.

Sure... it sold some new cars, but, forcing all old ones to be crushed was pure and simple, criminal. Even if they were written off as cat a (??) i.e. can't be put back on the road whatever, but, can be broken for parts.

I realise governments are ****ing morons, but, seriously... a 5 year old could have told you that was a stupid idea.

Hi all,
got to the end of the project, a few ups and downs but came out with a final conclusion.
go to SIMON DREW A CAR to have a look!

Critisism welcome, will probably have to do the final images again at some point cos i kind of rushed them the night/morning before the hand in. Thanks for all of your input!

Nice renders, but I can't really say I'm fond of the overall design. There are nice features such as the rear-side windows which wrap around to the roof, emulating the safari lights - and I like the rising waistline. But in my opinion it looks too much like an MPV and not enough like a 4x4. The short bonnet and big steep windscreen make it look like an Espace or something, and there is not enough ground clearance either. You could try to do a 'beefed up' version of this drawing to emphasise the off road nature.

All in all though nice project mate :D

Fook me youve designed a renault gaylander :p :D

you might want to check your spelling too, i know it needs to be more economical but you dont need to be economical with the letters in discovry ;)

Tend to concur with the above comments, definitely looks like a renault espace/MPV as opposed to a 4x4 and whats with the low profile tyres??

agree with the above...

that doesnt look like a 4x4... not even something Land rover would do....

Ok, it's probably the images that are ****e, I'll have another go and show you all again. It's meant to have a slightly more sloped bonnet, I'll give it another go and show you

Or a nissan cashquai or however you spell it.

Landrovers are meant to be untilitarian square boxes, even the pretty city ones which only go to tescos. Disco 3 is a great example, new design but still very square, practical and traditional, but with rounded corners to make it look modern. I think it would be wrong to stray too much from that shape else it'll end up looking like some horrible jap car.

Just cause when new most discos and rr's dont get taken seriously off road cause theyre so expensive, 10 - 15 years down the line on the second hand market, once the price has fallen they do get used as serious offroaders and in my opinion this is what maintains landrovers reputation as the best 4x4xfar. What ever you design must be very offroad capable cause even if it doesnt get pushed to the limit on the day it leaves the showroom it will a few years down the line.

Here's some improvments you could make to the D5

- Dont change the appearence tooo much from the D4 but please please please lose the bling! The front grill should be functional yet classy like on the rangerovers of a couple of years ago. The front grille on the D4 makes it looks like a drug dealers car, theres no need for it, looks terrible, please please get rid of it!

- Galvanising. For the small amount of money it would cost LR, galvanising the chassis and any other major steel components would be a godsend for the customer. Thats the biggest argument the jap car owners have against landys that they rust away and its not a difficult problem to solve to its about time something was done about it. Its not like LR would lose money from doing this as no one goes back to them for rust repairs or a new chassis. its all work done long after the warrenty has expired by independant garages.

- ECU placement - modern car without an ecu probs not gonna happen, but please locate your ecu sensibly. Putting it in with the engine is too low as its gonna get splashed when wading and ultimately end up with an expensive repair and breaking down in a pudde. If you can, make space inside to mount the ecu somewhere high and dry, maybe in the roof above the driver.

- Try to design with repairs in mind. Its all very well putting something together from scratch in the factory but think of the poor sod who has to replace that part right at the bottom of that inaccessible area when it breaks a few years later. Theres many examples of this but just a recent one for me was replacing the gearbox reverse switch. There was no realistic way of getting to it without removing the gearbox from the car. I ended up having to remove the carpets and cut an access hole in the floor. I think a little more attention to detail like that would win you a lot of fans.

-Difflock - Disco 5 should come with the ability to lock all 3 diffs, not just the centre as has been the way thus far. It is rediculous to spend so much money on a 4x4 and then have to spend out a few more grand with a 3rd party company to add full difflocking capibility.

Thats all I can think of for now but should give you something to work with.

As for the envirohippys - ****'em
