Hi, need help. Recently cooked my engine in a 59platehse disco 4. Engine is spinning but no compression. What should I do. Is it worth going to the expense of getting someone to try fixing or look for another engine. If it's another engine can anyone suggest a trusted garage to go to. Seems anyone on the internet are scammers. Send money upfront to book transport to pick it up ect, ect. Stevie.

Cooked and no compression, dont even bother spending any money to investigate it.

As for people you can trust for d4 engine work you are limited, Oval Autos (to far for you) have a good rep, MMP land rover (up your way Dundee) excellent rep quite possibly the best rep out there.

I think you will find the price of an engine plus fitting will be getting on for a large chunk of the cars value.

Send me 5k and I will arrange for someone to pick it up:D
but joking apart hard to find someone to do it for a good price and also do a good job

I find it so hard to believe, and so sad, that engines in more modern LRs seem to be made of Swiss cheese in comparison to engines from the Disco 1 backwards, or even the D2.:(:(:(

Cheers for that mate, will try them tomorrow.

Your laughing, had one bloke rang me from Working, asked me to transfer £500 up front to cover transport to pick it up so they could disappear with it to strip and sell for parts. Oh, and no vat mate,!!!!.

Thanks, will try them.

I would ask MMP what they think of most of the firms who recon/supply replacement 2.7/3.0 engines.

That NWS seems a bit suspect to me, 2600 gbp seems to cheap for a rebuilt 2.7v6, they say they fit new crankshafts to all their rebuilt engines, it is my understanding there are no new genuine 2.7 cranks on the planet?
Also dont think 12mths/30k warranty is much to shout about, especially the 12mth bit.
Might just be me being a non trusting bar steward!

Over the years the D3 forum has seen many threads of people getting shafted on recon/rebuilt engines.

Thanks for that mate. I will remember to ask the question. Cheers, Stevie.
