As some of you know I'm not around much because I travel a lot and most places I go have limited internet! At the moment I'm staying in the Austrian Alps and it has started snowing big time!
Standard tyre's were useless so I got some Pirelli Scorpion Snow and Ice tyres and they are amazing, really truly amazing! I cannot believe the difference. If anyone is going anywhere snowy I would definitely recommend getting proper tyres. On Sunday we went for a drive as high up the mountain as we could, and the only other people we saw had snow chains! The snow came early to the region and some people where not ready, some cars where completely buried and the same with some houses... I took some photos and put them into a youtube video in case anyone is interested:

Are those tyres with or without spikes?

No ski-ing yet, everything is closed! The snow is early this year apparently.

The tyres don't have spikes in them, they have just had something magic done to them. You need special permission to get spikes and I was told the disco would be fine with the normal ice and snow tyres, which it is! I'm starting work early at the moment and have to drive down the mountain before the ploughs arrive and it is great. Fresh snow, ice or anything and it drives almost like normal.

That's good - means you can use them when there's no snow. Years ago when I lived in Germany someone decided that "Spikesreifen" would be a good idea. You were limited to 100kph in case the spikes flew out of the tyres and killed you, and had to have a "100" sticker on the back. Two results - first all the 2cv's suddenly acquired "1000" stickers (predictable); second there was very little snow that year (unpredictable) and as a result the roads were ripped to pieces come Easter (predictable I suppose). They went out of fashion about then. Presumably yours are made of very sticky rubber or something even more magical.
