Added a few pics last post motor went in without issues only thing to fit is o/s engine mount and alternator once in this saves messing with the steering and gives a bit more room turbo side now sitting on its mounts, box on a stand, transfer box next, will try to finish underneath first then I can lower it a bit easier to work up top the atf came with the kit from maltings and was a good price. I would guess it had never been changed can now be done without a lot of faffing. thanks for your kind words guys will post more pics as I go

Hi all back online ripped power lead out of computer broke the socket just before Christmas had sometime off work weather etc back in workshop yesterday degreased transfer box as was covered in oil from a previous leak makes it a bit more manageable

Hi All got started again yesterday fitted transfer box its a bit awkward used my little transmission lift to position it at the right height i fit the bottom 6 bolts first you need a stubby for the top 2 of these 6 once all tight I lower the now attached unit so i can use my home made spanner to get to the top two (see pics) also a good point to re-route the wiring to the transfer box and it also runs to the fuel filter an disappears under the fuel tank guard plugs are all different you cant get them wrong. I then use my old 200tdi bottle jack to support the transmission this gives more room to fit the props next then the exhaust lastly the crossmember and its attachments which i will do Friday. It was so cold yesterday i just fitted the transfer box underneath then started up top re-fitted the engine earth from the chassis to the o/s engine mount (worth cleaning both ends) then altenator back on then cooling pipes as far as I got. Ordered battery, brake parts, filters and transmission cable feel sure i have forgot something will add pics on next post

Hi all forgot to mention my previous post about fuel systems was incorrect up to 2007 a D3 does not have knock sensors, 2007 on they have knock sensors a different fuel pump well plug anyway, and a different bulk head plug on the loom I incorrectly read the technical schematics thingy I want to say a big thank you @gstuart for sewing the seed of doubt and made me re-check other wise I would have had to re-pull the motor 3 days instead of 3hrs to change the pump and loom easy when out Sorry all you learn every day

Hi all having a few issues fun day yesterday had a fault with the gear selector it stopped cranking checked it out all trim was was loose couldn't get power so replaced with a second hand unit that i had,(had to replace the cable anyway) now cranks again I think the previous owner damaged the wiring or a plug when trying to get to the cable all good now. Sorry to bother you again @gstuart part number 4603186 knock sensor wiring harness is for D3 07-09? a couple of sites list it as D3 some list it as 4.4 don't think I got all the parts as I've had to buy a few bits quite a few differences after 07 caused some confusion thanks in advance

Hi mate some sites list it as D3 l319 07-09. On the 09 engine loom there is no knock sensor plugs like pre 07 but there is a spare block plug. when i picked it up it was in bits, I didn't get all bits surely there must a loom like 4603186 thanks so much

Hi mate just had a mate round no fuel pressure tank pump quit while we were testing pressure fitting new one tomorrow/wen he checked for codes (gonna buy gap soon) none showing will fit pump and go from there, many thanks for you help much appreciated. sorry cant post pics still will try again later will keep you informed

the drama continues removed the tank not too bad everything quite easy to get to removed the pump only to find the new pump has a different regulator attachment, the old one has an internal circlip the new one (which are listed on many websites as D3 05-07) has a external clip which must fit on a stub mine fits in a socket but i need a part number 09751550510 i wonder if this is also a 07-on difference have found many interesting points during this build (good job its just a hobby) will do photos when the download thing is sorted what i have learned with D3 is remove the part read the number before ordering parts some parts are 05-07 but some are not

fuel pump drama over after talking to maltings today (thanks guys) the genuine or original pump I had the regulator clips into the base of the tank, the replacement just "floats" in the tank this is how they fit it so should be good so confusion over hopefully will re-fit pump and tank over the weekend
