I have just replaced the fuel pump on my Disco, it seems to be idling better, and runs smoother. Is it just my imagination.? The old pump was sounding like a washing machine, and when l took it out it was almost black.

Not your imagination at all Clint. Mine died a couple of months back. After replacement, the engine did seem more lively. Probably because the pump deteriorates over a period of time before it gives up the ghost completely.

It's worth taking the pump out from time to time and cleaning the filters within the pump of that black stuff.

The black stuff btw is indicative of worn injector seals.

Thanks for that final nugget Biglad.

I was about to order injector seals, but as there was not a trace of black stuff on my old pump, I shall leave that job till the summer.
