higuys I'm new to this site looking for some my discovery 1999 td5 goes into limpmode when I dip clutch to change to second gear hill descent light comes on and engine light then I have no power any ideas ?? Mobile mechanic came and plug laptop in and said it was my map sensor and maff sensor bit it wasn't as i replaced it and it still does it so I've just ordered a hawkeye myself any help would be great ...

It came up with map sensor and maff sensor so I replaced it then I got in to drive it when I went to change it to second gear that was when hill desecent came on and engine management light came up and it has no power

I could be wrong but I didn't know that the ECU would generate specific fault codes for a suspect MAF or MAP sensor.
I thought that the diagnosis of these components as being faulty was obtained by reading live data. o_O

He turned the key so all the lights where on then it pinged up saying maf sensor and map sensor then he said replace them should be fine never took it for a drive like i said to to find out why its going into limpmode ..

Hi, the EML is triggered by two components only: TPS and crank sensor as long as it's not a wiring issue cos it can be as the HDC has nothing to do with the engine management but it's suspect that it comes together with the EML.
BTW, there is no "limp mode" on manuals, it's specific for automatic modells so what's the exact symptom you get cos ''no power" is too vague

So basically when I'm in first gear when I drive and about to change to second gear hill descent comes on and engine light and then there no power it gutless its literally just started doing it mobile mechanic said it was map sensor snd maf sensor so I replaced them and he said it would be like brand new to drive but its still doing it .... ??

Some questions:
1. If you push the throttle stationary the rpm climbs up nice to above 3000 ? ,
2. the EGR is still fitted ?
3. when you turn ignition on 2 can you see all the ABS related warning lamps ?

I'm interested especially in the TC light cos it's only one case when the engine management can be linked to HDC but then HDC and TC should be on together with the EML in case of TPS or CPS failure which triggers the "invalid engine data" code in the SLABS ECU. Being Eu2 the MAF can't cause such symptom and the MAP doesnt trigger the EML. Wait untill your hawkeye arrives cos the real code is needed to properly diagnose this

Had it tested tonight and my manifold is only kicking out 108kw should be at 250 ish if not over as it had a remap aswell so not had a service in i dont know how long so that might be one of the issues and also my ecu plug and wires are melted about so my mate told me to get another ecu plug and wire it to the original wires as that could be chucking faults about
