So u can cut sill away without touching the floor? Did u make new body mounts/outriggers? Bet ur missus is made up with the mess uve made of that path! Haha


No, I didn't cut the inner sill away I slid the box section in between the fixed the inner with the body mounts on to the box. When the body mounts go I will weld the new ones on the to the box. This time I welded the box outside and plug welded from the top....

Its the brick weave driveway. :D We have sold the house :eek: so I'm gona have to get the jet wash out on it and do the best I can. I have used sand as much as possible to soak up oil etc... :D

So heres one I prepared earlier.... Get ready for a stunning piece of artistry. I studied years at the Landyzone School of Art and this is the result...



The bits surrounded by black are where I had to cut away. I basically made up from 2mm steel the same shapes and then welded them back in before cleaning it up (a bit) and covering with filler to make it look nice (ish). I couldn't be bothered to get it perfect because at the end of the day this is not perfect rebuild. The dodgy welded bit of metal on the floor inside is just there as a thick stop to weld against. I put another piece in which I tacked to the floor to weld one side of the new door seal lip to....



If I had really taken my time I could have made it look all nice but Time I don't have so its in and solid and thats good enough.





Then I got a bit carried away with the red oxide.



Thats been done on both sides and then the bits which are going to be on view I will paint black.... more to follow but not for a week or so as I've got a lot on. However I think we are not far away from MOT time. Just got .... Actually thinking about it still got quite a few small jobs to do... Oh well hopefully soon :D
 
Would be easier to paint the rest of the car red now instead of painting that lot green :p

LOL.. no its fine I've got to paint the whole outside black anyway and the stuff that won't be seen is being left red. :D
 
Well after a few weeks out the country I came back and was able to resume the work. I am closer now than ever to getting old bumble bee back on the road. After today I'm hoping to book the MOT, forgot it was a bank holiday today. So here she is, the end of a very long project (with still a million things to do) :D but all the massive jobs are done now and it will be a lot easier tackling one job at a time. Thanks for everyones help and advice, this has been a completely new experience for me and I've learned so much.























I still have some bits of trim to put back on and I think I may have to get some reflectors not sure if the light units contain any?? Bulbs and wipers need replacing and axle breathers.

Some of the other things I want to do are re trim the seats, put in a cb radio, put some winch bumpers, build a new rear door card, do the door springs, fix the drivers side window (it falls out) touch up some paint areas,finish the rear panel trims, tube the electrics, do the fuel pump thingy and basically on and on and on and on and on...... ;) Anyway hope I've given a few people a laugh and heres to passing the MOT :5bcheers2: fingers crossed....

So, jumped in bumblebee last night to have a little test drive on the green opposite my house. Which produced some interesting results. Tested all the gears and they all worked fine, diff lock, high, low etc so I was pleased with that. However the brakes are being a little odd. When I got in, before starting the car, they were spongy, few pumps and they went hard. Drove across on to the green, they stopped the car, but once stopped the pedal would sink to the floor. It was late so I didn't have time to investigate. It was bothering me with all the work I have done and so I had a quick look at 5:30 this morning. Got in and pressed the peddle, it was hard. Started the car, put pressure on the pedal and as the servo kicked in it sunk to the floor. Couldn't be late for work so I had to leave it till tonight. I will re-bleed them and also check to see if any air is coming back in to the reservoir. I'm just not sure at the moment if its 'diesel creep' or the master cylinder seals have gone. The car has been stood for a long time and then I have replaced all the pipes and put new calipers on, new fluid, bleeding, disturbing etc. Its just frustrating as I really wanted to get it MOT'd this week :mad: maybe I just have to order a new master and get that done friday. We shall see. :)
 
are all the wheel bearings good, when they move about it can push the pistons back in a bit so you need to pump the peddle a bit.

Everything on the axles and suspension is brand spanker.... Apart from the front calipers. They were in good nick so just cleaned them up and put them back on. All the bearings etc have been replaced with timken. There are no leaks so it can't be caliper seals, when we first bled the brakes there was a few leaks but I double checked and tightened all the new joints and there is nothing coming out of them or the calipers now. With the pressure applied it soon made itself clear if there was a leak :eek:. I will check the master cylinder tonight and see if there is any air being pushed back up. Thinking about it now I should have replaced the seals in the master when the brakes were apart but hind sight is a wonderful thing :D
 
Got in and got the missus to sit in the car and do the peddle. With the car off the peddle is hard, turned it on and asked her to pump the peddle gently.... :drum: ... and there is definitely a back wash in to the reservoir, so in a way I'm relieved as its a problem solved, thanks to JamesMartin for his help. Be easier if it hadn't happened but there we go.... SO order a new cylinder tom and get it fitted Friday before the MOT Saturday :D Have heard some people talking about bench bleeding.... So off to youtube that.. Not entirely sure its a good idea :D

Ordered the new Lucas master cylinder from paddocks last night. Now for the research on bleeding it on the bench...... :)
 
Its arrived :banana: Good ole Paddocks... Unfortunately it doesn't come with a bleeding kit so I'm gona have to improvise one. Popping down to the motor factors tomorrow to get some bits and pieces anyway, so I'll see about making up a little bleed kit with washer pipe.

Nice and shiny.... :D




 
if you have a spare lid, put a innertube valve in the lid so you can pump the fluid through with a pump (just keep an eye on the level)

I have an easy bleed kit for the brakes :p.... But I wanted to bench bleed the cylinder before putting it on... Sometimes when you buy a cylinder it comes with a few plastic male pipe ends, some washer pipe and little rubber grommets this one didn't. I'll make something, up I have some spare ends. :)

Did you ever get your rubber mats? I just fixed mine down with some old five bar I found in the skip at work...
 
Yea I did, cut them pretty much identical to how you did yours. not fixed them in yet. need to do something as they do move some when your clambering in n out.
It shouldn't need much as its only just moves
 
Well the day of days has arrived.... MOT.... quite nervous after all the work, you just never know what they are going to say about things. Anyway we shall see the world will continue either way :)

Good luck! When I did mine I was very anxious, ended up chatting with the tester while he did it :)
