Rangy alloys on a Disco would they work matt black?

Well that's out the question then. Would u advise I have a go or leave it be? Pretty good with the spanners like an learn fast but if it's going to lead to another diff going pop if I get it wrong then I'd rather not.
 
A couple of weeks ago I got the axle and front suspension off and in to the garage. Keep it out the way of prying pikey eyes :D so thought Id have a go at getting the swivels off tonight......



Did the first one eventually a lot of plus gas and chipping the rust off to get the spanner on but slowly slowly catchy monkey and it came...



Really pleased with the condition of the front shocks will save me having to buy new ones.....

In contrast the brakes and hubs are just useless smashed up pieces of rubbish...



Anyway all the stuff for the timing belt change arrived today all I'm waiting for now is the water pump... Fingers crossed that it'll be here for the weekend :clap2: once thats done its on with stripping the axle and cleaning the hubs and swivels up replacing seals etc. So much still to do and a little daunted by the timing belt change but still looking forward to the challenge.....

It was a lot easier off the car as I could spin the axle over. Or did you mean the timing belt? The axle itself appears to be in good nick no welding needed just a scrub up and paint. So that'll make it easier than the rear one. Already cut some of the old bushes from the radius arms they are solid as so thats good got my technique for getting them out down now. :cool:

Ye ment the axles, got the calipers to recon as well. got the kits and calipers at home but need a vice so got to take them back to work and loosen the bolts first. Then will put new seals in the axles when I change the discs. Gona start on my workshop on Sunday :D

Nice... Stop rubbing it in!!!! I have to limbo under my axle in the garage at the moment :D still better than being out in the freezing cold..... :lol:
 
Had a mixed weekend of work this weekend, some things going really well others being a complete pig... :mad: It seems the pig things have over ridden the good things but anyway heres the pics :D

Started by removing the rad and intercooler



Filled the intercooler with paraffin and left it sitting over night just to help get rid of any gunk



Gives plenty of spcae to get at the belts. Up to this point everything came away easy... Then in the morning got my grips on the pulley and cracked the nut.




Came off in my hand



Water Pump off no problems there all the nuts came away beautifully...



I then removed the Alternator and its bracket and undid the bolts on the cover... All but one... One single bolt rung off!!! :violent: could not move it for love nor money but back to this later...

Once I had the cover off I removed the glow plugs and turned the engine over using the dog nut. Lined everything up and put the pin in the injector pump... fine.. got underneath to put the locking pin in the flywheel... Found the bolt and the hole....



Excellent.... No... No mark.. confused I read some posts ad had a look at the Haynes. Ah that explains its there is supposed to be two bolts with a plate... Couldn't find it... Looked and looked... Put a thread on here... Most people just saying line up the arrow etc... Anyway came out this morning and tried again eventually after looking for ages stumbled on it.... So for anyone doing an auto You can lock the crank and heres where it is...

From passenger side



Go under



Follow Transmission cooling pipes back til they kink. Exhaust down pipe on the right, sump on the left...



Follow up the back of the engine plate...



And there is your locking hole



No little plate on mine and the hole was open... might have to get a plug for that...



Anyway both the crank pulley and the cam pulley came off no problem, replaced the seals and then spent the rest of the day trying to remove one of the front cover studs which had sheared off... Still not done it!! tried everything welding on nuts everything... Looks like I may have to take the whole lot off and drill it out the block.... never mind all part of the journey :D

As you get a few different sizes it has come in handy.
The one you posted looks good but being only one item I would spend ages looking for it and fail where mine came in a nice blue box which is easy to spot!

Yes I do have serious trouble with putting something down and it vanishing, only for it then to be found when the job is done in some other much more 'extreme engineering' way!
