Thanks gstuart. Carpets are generally dry, well they are now. I have big rubber mats down so wouldn't have noticed previously.

When it happens I am getting a red triangle, but then it goes away and comes back, so it could be a a broken wire that's reconnecting / breaking. The fact that it is more frequent now means it can hopefully be pinpointed.

No indication of why sometimes it's bricked and no ignition and why sometimes it starts either - but that could indicate battery also?

Re the battery it's not struggling when starting, but I have no means of testing the load but the RAC will do that as a first step I guess. Also the alternator seems to be charging when tested, but again it's an intermittent issue but who knows. I have a feeling I will end up paying for lots of 'maybe' fixes.

Must admit I am out of my depth with this, just praying that it can be fixed and I won't be left with a bill that's more than it's worth. Annoyingly put 4 new tyres on it before this trip so extra cost if its a write off

ur so welcome and indeed always a forums team effort , thks for the DTC codes as that does help

so from those been going through all the files/ manuals etc I have and found this technical notice that maybe a garage might find useful

Battery Charge Warning Lamp On With DTC B11DB-87 Stored

alas it may just be a red herring but wished to at least share it with u in case it’s relevant , so from that

On the positive battery terminal you should have 3 cables. One goes to the starter/alternator, one to the main fuse box next to the battery and a small single cable which connects the BMM. Check the continuity of the single cable as these sometimes break inside the sheathing.

U codes can normally be ignored

so indeed would double check that the battery currently fitted is correct , if ur unsure and wouldn’t mind sending me a PM plse with ur reg number and vin I can look into this further for u

also think the TCM module needs to be looked at to ensure the pins are ok and no water ingress, but think we need to ensure that BMS wire is 100% ok before going any further and never know it might just be the wire breaking down within the conduit

shame ur not closer as have a few testers , ie similar Autel code reader from ur pic, a gap iid and various clamp / multimeters etc , would have been more than happy to see if I could find the error FOC for u

hope that helps and will dig deeper for u if thats ok to send me the reg and vin number plse in order I can double check things , mainly so u have as much data as possible for any garage

also posted ur screenshot here for u

hi buddy

talking of clips/ fasteners etc I’ve managed over time to buy different types of pliers to make life a lot easier for the various clips that are fitted throughout the disco , some of the most useful pliers were the knipex type R hose clips that go around the EGR pipes and the inner wheel arch clip removal pliers

along with some terminal pin files , still amazed of the massive range of different pliers that are on the market and could spend a fortune

yeh I know I need to get out more , lol

PS, great to see ur back mate

May well be needing some of those when I strip the plastic off the range for rustproofing

I've got those red handled trim pliers, they're good but the scissor type ones are a bit scratchy. Use the hose ones at work, need some for home! Youve got quite the collection 😆

sounds a great project you’ve got coming up

indeed and to be honest didn’t realise how many I had got until I started to organise them, lol, they certainly make life easier that’s for sure, particularly the EGR clips as my god I struggled beforehand

plus 1 with regards to be very careful, got some of the plastic ones for any interior trim

Belated thanks for this. I have been having a nightmare with the RAC since then and my car has JUST been delivered home now so the saga can continue. I will keep you posted with progress!

Update. Got the disco back yesterday after being with my local guy who is crazily busy for 2 weeks. He couldn't replicate the fault but checked/cleaned/reseated a lot of the modules. Same with the earths as well as replacing a couple. I think on near the back and the one behind the drivers front wheel. He also replaced the brake pedal switch and added a couple more earths. I've had it back for a day now and driven it to work and back with no issues, as well as running around at home. As it's intermittent there's no way of telling if he's nailed it but the signs are good.

If it throws again I will post here but it s looking like it was one of those things, so kudos to all who called "earth"

Now I need to work out why 2 doors won't lock / unlock automatically and replace the tailgate switch that keeps dropping out....

FFS a month of happy driving and it’s just done it again while on holiday! At least I’m in Cheshire

Time to revisit the battery, I remember you had a mechanic check it but just with a multimeter, not a voltage drop test. As @lynall pointed out they eat batteries for fun

Will do. My local Indy checked it in the meantime but you never know. Beginning to wonder if it’s the alternator but intermittent

He’s a Landrover specialist so has their diagnostic stuff. Not sure he’s tested it other that seeing that it’s charging though. I do wonder if it’s throwing a wobble that’s knocking everything out but how to prove when it’s so intermittent. The intermittent element is a ball ache

Pm
Maybe alternator then? Did you have LR specific diagnostics on it? Can't remember

A check on the alternator is simple with a dmm..
