I was fitting a new front uj and I cant figure what's happening 2 caps and clips on no prob the fitting the 3rd cap and clip ok but the other end needs pushed down a bit to fit the clip but when I do this with a press I am pushing the end of the caps out ie breaking them the only thing I can thing is they arnt the right size. Anyone any ideas?

Assuming you have stock props & good brand UJs such as GKN, it could be a case that there's too much grease locked inside. I remember when I did mine, I had to use a balljoint G-clamp to push the caps in. But the UJs were all greasable so the excess grease drained out from the nipple hole.

No they weren't gkn they were cheap. Must just be that. It's the only thing I can think of. I never seen bearing cap fall to bits like that but then I dont usually use a press . I not got a vice fitted in the new garage yet so I dont /have ever used a press maybe to much force cap caught at a funny angle who knows

If they're BP, there's a good chance that the dimensions are slightly off. Mine were when I bought their brake pistons - they just wouldn't fit in the calipers. Changing UJs is quite a job and it's not one that I would want to redo in 6 months time. Besides, a spinning prop shaft can really do some damage if it becomes disconnected at high speed. GKN is my top choice for UJs. Moog is another good brand but never used them on props. And then there's LR $$$

Most likely is that 1 of the needle rollers has become dislodged during assembly and fallen into the bottom of the housing on that side.
+1 on GKN for replacement UJs

Absolutely+1^^^^^^. Happened to me and cost me a new u/j. I pushed it so hard the end cap split!
Just take it all apart and have a good look. Comes of trying to put it all together with warm hands on a hot day, the grease melts and lets one of the roller bearings move.
