righ i took the clock out and the switches below and the drinks holder and ashtray there is nothing behind there that will fit or even any wiring. there is under the steering column flap a red connector with six wires going in to it that goes to nowhere could i need a connestor to this then to the fogs ?

Normally any redundant cable and plugs are coiled up in the position where the additional item is to be fitted.
If the red plug was up by the mirror control switch then it may be for headlamp leveling control if that was fitted.
It's unfortunate that I can't see the colour of the plug fitted to my foglamp switch without doing what u have done, dismantling the switch bank.
None of my wiring diagrams give the connecter colour either.
Are you using the white plugs behind the headlamps they are for the foglamps.

yes I have connected to the white plugs behind the headlights but the only way of trying to turn them on is by turning the rear fogs on and as expected nowt happens :)

Front & rear are on two different circuits I will have a listen for a relay clicking when switching on.
I don't use mine I've never been out at night in the fog, that is the only time they are used.

thanks discool (I'll probably never use them but everything has to work on my car) I feel inadequate if it doesnt :) that may explan the nightmare with the brake light switch :D

I agree with the first bit :) anyway there is a relay behind the passenger footwell kick panel/glove box area so that the first place to see if the wiring from behind the headlamps and the dash switch area makes an appearance. I will see if this relay is mentioned in my parts book.

I shall relay search now :)

I can save your searching relay YWB10027L fog lamps front-Yellow it's on the hinged drop down part also in the same area is a relay for the rear fog lights that one has a green connector.

oh cock i searched in vain lol which drop down bit ? the drivers side hinged panel ?

My LR parts catalogue shows a hinged drop down relay mounting plate on passenger side RHD there should be eight or nine relays.
ABS, dim-dip, power wash, a/c, cruise are there if the disco has those items..

mmmmm cant see that is this inside the car ?
under the glove box there is some cabling etc no relays
there is a drop down panel on the drivers side with fuse box etc. where ami looking or is my model a very late 300 tdi with everything changed :)

ere yar

I can find no front (or rear) fog light relays. the rear lights come from the headlight relay, through fuse B2, rear fog lamp switch LS4 and to the lights. Neither the Paper manual (SJR900) or Rave, show front fog lights at all.

Unfortunatly the drawings that are required are for from VIN MA110670 with relay bracket AMR4139 not AMR3066 as shown and fitted to vehicles with VIN to MA110669

ok now I know you are both from a completely different universe WTF does that mean :D any other ideas that some one such as myself with the IQ of a bag of peanuts may be able to cope with ?

Seriously though thanks for trying i an still trying to get to grips with the RAVE cd and failing at the moment

i think he is saying my manual is too old :D.

I think it's the only one available up 1996 as it's the one I use and it's 95% relevant to 1997-98 models :) but, then there's the 5% so it's down to my parts book, shame I don't have a PC copy I then could post the relevant relay page.
