I have spent a couple of weekends doing solid mileage on pure snow much of it un driven and was keen to concentrate on working out how the vehicle drove with centre diff locked/unlocked

Defo felt more willing to lose grip/push on during cornering with centre diff locked which was fully expected but then of course also felt more dedicated/under control at same time because grip under power was more available

Absolute simple truth of the matter is open diffs only exist in this world because auto diffs/limited slip units are more expensive

Ideal world every off road vehicle would have as a basis an ATB fitted and better a plated LSD unit at least

Same goes for road cars and track cars alike

Ashcroft ATB is still lockable but for all those other times when you are unlocked you would be in a better situation with an ATB in the transfer case than an open diff

Needless to say, knowing my track record, it is one of those things that is on my long term "bored now, what to modify next" list

The ATB sounds good, still got full lock but then LSD the rest of the time.

I have a cross drilled gear here only done 1k miles since strip down was from a 1.4:1 i think
Regards the cross drilled input, what exactly does that do over a standard one?
And what's your opinion on this one? ok? or fubar?
the pitted gear done look great, do you think they will be a problem?

Looking at my one and comparing it to another, there looks to be a bit of wear, not loads mind you.

Removed my steering box, argh.. what a ball ache!
Had a near miss with the grinder while working on me noo bumper.
Check the slice in the jeans!

Bumper brackets tacked in place.

Oh and cut it all with this, not used it for more than just a test.. went well I thought, beats using a grinder!
This is 6mm plate with the plasma on full on a 16A plug.

Cross drilled input gear lets oil at the splines to prevent dry fretting

If your box is out it's considered a must fit item along with input and output seals/flanges

Cheers

I picked one up a few weeks back but my compressor isn't really man enough:-(

Mark if you want to take this input gear and try it although I *think it was a 1.4 box however it may have been a disco 1.2 but can't remember off my head!

If you want it and it's of use to you £30 but welcome to take and try before hand J

The plasma is my new favourite tool! such a pleasure to use.

I'm unsure what I'm goin to do about the transfer box atm, but I'll let you know about the gear thanks.

Finally got the Aframe out of the axle after some alternative bashing. Cut the lobes off the joint and lots and lots of bashing later with a 4lb club hammer it started to move!
I ran a tap through the two bolt holes to clean them up and fitted the Xeng adjust wide angle joint with a bit of a faff, kept wanting to go in on the ****.
Also replaced my steering box and cut the main angles on the bumper with plasma.. lovley job! Love the plasma soooooo much.

Got half of the old I need for my service, fitted the Aframe joint and cut up a load of metal for my removable wheel carrier.

Just seen this on a FB group, this is what I originally planned, but without a bender and the price of paying to get it bent.. I thought it wasn't feasible at the time!
But this is now on my to do list after the 1 link, I will be doing the front end different, but the wings will be the same or similar.

Went to my mates to buy his welder he was selling, came back with a replacement track rod, alternator and a lt230! hope to get one good one out of the 2 I have spare :)

Got the rest of the oil for my service and the new m12 bolts and some tube to make crush tubes in the chassis leg.
Oh and got a bargin! Some P38 headers for a mighty sum of 20 quid locally. but thats yet another job for the up comming months along with the one link.

P38 headers always look good on eBay, if you can make them fit you'll have a nice powerful setup there I think
