Hello from Estonia, guys!
I just bought 94 Disco and I have one question. Do You now, in new TDi300 engines was there any fuel limiting systems in pump to protect overspeeding. My Disco made max 4500RPM and axelerate in 27-28sek/100km. I asked old owner(my good old friend) and he told that this car axelerateing was so slow since he bought it in 1994.

prob not the reply you are looking for but.......if mine ever hits 4500 rpm I'll shoot meself for being stupid and i can't believe that anyone would buy a Discovery and worry about its 0-60mph:confused: or 0-100kms whatever way you look at it

O_60 in half an hour sound good to me (from my recollection of my disco days) yuor so called mate sold u a pup , didnt he?
BUY A FREELANDER if you want speed, i swear by em(or shoud that be at em) Hic!
 
That sounds about right, and what are you doing revving it up over 4500 anway? Diesel engines don't like reves, quick gear changes and get up through them quickly is the plan with a diesel, especially a LR.

You ought to be changing gear at 2000 ish, and then in 5th gear (25mph for every 1000rpm,) you will sit at 75 doing about 3000rpm... sounds good to me.
 
Thanks for support but Ihavent answer to my question.Of course, its not a rally car and I never will buy Freelander, and normally I drive and keep 2000RPM. But my Disco havent enough power when I start and pull something. Its not normal.Engine works very well and is in a good condition( in winter start in first turn in -25
 
Your 300 tdi is,(or should be) governed by the injector pump to 4600rpm, no load.If you have a lack of power then a good diesel shop will do a healthcheck on your engine.Expect to pay for 1-2 hours labour to give an answer to powerloss - even if it isnt fixed in that time.The Tdi's are simple and robust motors,it is usually quite simple to pinpoint what is wrong.
 
Change the fuel filter, this can account for apparent loss in power under load.

Also check the air filter and check the lift pump is working, my 300tdi had a non working lift pump, it ran OK, just didn't accelerate well and didn't have good power, but was still perfectly usable (good old injector pump working overtime!).

To test the lift pump, disconnect the fuel out pipe from the lift pump, and give it a few pumps on the lever, if no diesel spills out then turn it over on the starter one crank (don't let it start just give it a tiny tweek) then try the lever if it does nothing then give it another 1 crank, if it STILL does nothing, its gubbed, renew it, simple job, pull it off and stick on the new one.

Do this when engine is cold, as if its warm that one crank may be enough for it to fire...
