Right I've ordered my speakers so it's now just about waiting.
I have 2 rear door sub mouldings so I'm wondering if in some way or another, I can mount one on top of another, to cover the whole speakers.
For protection I'm thinking yeah you could bend up some 3mm stainless bar and make a primitive cage, or make up a little house for them out of mdf, screw it to the original cover and then sand it in and carpet it, make it look smooth.
I used to make little pods for door speakers out of mdf and body filler, this sort of thing would be nice and easy cos you could make it square and then just round the corners off with a router.
It's however far you wana take it mate
Intersting thread guys,
My sub in my 300tdi doesnt work fitted new radio/cd head.
So if anybody upgrading their sub like this wants to sell their old sub woofer speakers and amp (working of course)
let me know
Thanks
there is no sound coming out of your subs because you've changed the head unit and the subs have lost their signal it's quite easy to get them working again if you have RCA outputs on the back of the new head unit.Intersting thread guys,

This may be a really stupid question but, what is behind the mesh in the boot door normally?
already thought of that when i did it, as had 2 there in my boot, it sort of fits over, but not properly or wont be sturdy enough, ie would snap easy, its how to secure them together
Hi Polsta, I've just this afternoon installed the new speakers identical to yours and have installed them so they look absolutely factory.
Here's how I did it:
First I took out the old units and eye'd up the new ones to see where the problems lie. As you can see in the pic I've marked how much material from the back door I would need to remove:
I cut out the surplus with a trusty jig-saw and then installed the new ones as per this pic, before I put the grill back on:
I've wired then both as the previous speakers & the overall effect is very pleasing.
Thanks again for putting me onto this mod and these speakers, it's a nice improvement.
Cheers
Dave
Hi dave
sorry for highjacking the thread but how did your wife get on with the series / defender test drive and what was her decission.
Excellent thread...but its got me thinking. What sort of sound should I get from the rear door. I have never been in the back of the Disco when the CD has been on. Took a couple of kids out the other afternoon and they complained the back door souned "funny ( 7 Seater and they were in the boot). Sure enough the CD sounds OK in the front and rear, but the back bass speakers just vibrate. You can hear music, not only just. Mostly vibration and a muffled noise. Tried the same CD in another Disco an he gets the same effect. Question is have we both got knackered speakers or is that as good as it gets. Unfortunatly got no other Disco to try it in.

Hi Dewin. Thanks for the reply. Both have got the original Becker head units inHave you still got the standard head unit in the Disco? If not, then the sub's have lost their signal. Quite a few threads on here on how to get them working with an after-market head unit
