Hello all members.
I am a new old fella who just joined today after being a guest for some years.I now live near Bordeaux and have a disco Mk2 2002.auto
Can anyone help me with an intermittant problem.
The manual and sport lights come on together along with the amber check engine light and the accelerator does nothing.The engine stays on and you can just creep along in auto.If you keep restarting the engine sometimes it will clear and be ok from a few seconds to a day but it is now in fault mode most of the time.
Any ideas would be welcome. Ray
 
It sound like it needs pluging in to the good old diagnostic computer.The auto box and the engine comunicate with each other but it sounds like it might be worth looking at the gear postion selector they call the xyz sensor on the side of the gearbox.or disconnect the oil temp sensor on the bottom of the auto gearbox cooler that could be faulty causing it to go in to limp home mode.But find a local independent Land rover garage and get it pluged on the computer.

This is the engine ECU going into fault mode - usually caused by the engine loom rubbing through somewhere around the front of the engine,near the A/C compressor.The 5v supply wire to the ambient air temp sensor gets shorted to the block,this also supplies the throttle pot.If the 5v supply is shorted out the engine ecu will not respond to the pedal till it is shut down and rebooted.(assuming the short is removed)
Havea good look around,disconnecting the loom is best as you can then see all around it.Rerouting after re-insulating should do the trick.
 
Im having the same problem with my td5, still waiting for someone to come round with a diagnostic box.
Mines on a manual, she restarted the first time but now still in limp mode .

It looks utterly competent, and from experience.

Checking for a damaged wiring harness is dead easy, and good Elless tape is cheap enough.

Im having the same problem with my td5, still waiting for someone to come round with a diagnostic box.
Mines on a manual, she restarted the first time but now still in limp mode .

If it's any help, my problem is, the wiring loom thats in the cam needs replacing, oil travels down the loom to the ecu and shorts out.
