Tbh mate, I'm a mechanic day to day but hadn't done a land rover timing belt before about a month ago.

bloody easier than I expected tbh!

Ok, there might be an element of experience here and 'the feel' there, but it really isn't difficult.

Parts are about 60 quid probably, and around 2 hours if you take your time.

If I was doing it for a mate I'd probably say £50 plus parts or £100 for a half-mate, cos it really is an easy job on a 300tdi.

Obviously there could always be problems, seized bolts etc, but that's always the way...

make sure you use decent 6 sided sockets on the injection pump sprocket bolts-they are tight and easily rounded with 12 sided sockets

Not to difficult to do but just to help, buy some tippex before you disturb any belts and pulleys, just mark yourself some referance points, it will make you feel better when you come to put it back together. If still unsure take loads of pics with your phone.
If your old belt shows any signs of wear or rubbing/freying to one side or the other then there is a mod where you will need to change the front mounting casing and the guides.
This is both a pain to do and expensive
Ps change the belt with a replacement kit which will include tensioner pulley etc.
One last thing...Be sure to rotate the engine by hand at least TWO FULL TURNS before any attempt to start off the key:behindsofa:

I changed the head gasket and timing belt, recently, it ran for a bit but it was like it was starving of power when I put the throttle down,
I left it over night and it will not start at all now and it is running my battery down trying to start it.

When a took the old timing belt off the casing was full of shavings from the OLD timing belt.
