That's true as well

Which one would you go for? Disco 3 or rr l332?
To be honest neither. I could afford to run one but choose not to. I already have a big car which i don't really need. I choose to own it. I don't need an even bigger car and save on the additional running costs above what i already pay.

I totally understand where you're coming from

What if you had to choose though, which one would it be?

Come on Hippo spill the beans lol

If money and running cost is not factored into the decision (buying, running and maintenance/servicing) then I would pick the L322 over a D3. The D4 update interior is much betterer than the D3.

Why? Because it looks betterer and has the same creature comforts, power and on and oft roaderbility as ma hippo. Ma hippo has been oft road which is more than the majority of D3 and new RR will ever do.

When buying any of these heavier LR's I can't help thinking of the running costs. I have driven a D4 and L405 on and oft road with LR eggsperiance. They're both comfortable. The central tunnel takes up a lot of room which is why they're wider to give more seating space. The big problem yer can't get away from is the work required to keep them going at 100k miles plus. They're costly to maintain up to that but they need a golden service at this point. Not to mention brake pads and bushes regular.

Air bag travel doesn't get me eggsited as I don't like the twitching feeling. It does make them quieter on motorways but average modern cars don't suffer like they did years ago. The cost of air bag work at this point needs factored in anorl. Overall they cost a lot to keep running when they're not that old. Hence why prices are so low. But if yer prepared for that then they offer a cheaper option to a new one. I see a lot of peeps new to this site who get caught out by the work they need as they age.

Thanks for the constructive post and points

I will have to have a good think about it now with the points you've raised

They're not all bad but do need more maintenance than yer average car. On my yearly mileage of something like 4000 miles Freelander ownership is a reasonable price i will pay. If i were to buy a D3 or rr then it would cost more to run and maintain. I wouldn't use it more oft road than the FL2 which is occasional these days. I can't help thinking the saving of not having a bigger LR means i can finish the mortgage earlier or retire earlier or simply have a bit more money available to make life easier. I'm more careful with money and try to avoid excessive cost in life. As said many times on ere... I don't need a big car but choose to have one. I certainly din't need a big big car.

I know of someone who sold a house and bought a smaller cheaper one in his village. About half the cost. His wife and kids agreed. When the neighbours took the p*ss he pointed out the downsize meant he was mortgage free. There's always the option of a newer FL2 or a higher spec one if yer still want to change. ;)

In short.

The D3 is good the L322 is built like shít, go and drive both and decide which you want to bankrupt yourself with...

Personally i'm partial to a jag Powered V8 D3, because of the engine and i like the looks, + the D3 can accommodate my Frame IE very comfy!!, whereas the L322 can't.

The Bollywood/hollywood/gangsta/curb crawler/#not really a proper mud plugger like the RRC image, isn't for me..

The P38 pushes the Posh bar a tad too far for my taste anyway I put myself off it every time i pull the cover off, hence why i have a D2 and the P38 still isn't taxed.

Personal preference is key..

The FL2 like Hippo says is a marvelous vehicle, the people that crow about it being not really a proper LR should shut oop. The most common argument is the lack of low range etc they can all shove it, as most won't ever use it in their curb crawler anyway.
And lets be honest most who buy the RR buy for the image not its capability ;)

I like the FL2..

If it wasn't for the fact i'd ruin its inside with old Agri equipment i'd have one..

thinking about this thread again, its crazy the cost of up keeping
It depends on the car..

A mechanic I know quite well has a 2002 3.0 L322 it had a gearbox rebuild before his tenure and in the 3yrs he's had it, his total parts expense was £90 o_O:D

I'm assuming you own a FL2 going by your avatar so an L322 would be a nice progression..

If I were to recommend an L322 it would be the 2006+ L322 with the AJv8 the best L322 IMO..

Good engine and gearbox, the latter cars seem to have "some" of the niggles ironed out too which is nice..
