I have a disco and my problem is the chassis is beyond welding. the body is still good and have new mot... but chassis will not pass next mot so which defender chassis will fit without 2 much work.... please help as I love my 2 door 16 year old disco. I hope you can help as taking her RTW in 2012.
 
why do yu want to fit a defender chassis - plenty of good disco ones about. its defender chassis that rot :eek:
 
If you are planning a round the world trip i'd firstly make sure you've got a vehicle that is solid and reliable...a rotten disco sounds a tad over-ambitious..

If it was me i'd probably put a disco chassis on a disco too. Call me old fashioned if you must.

Yer old fashioned :D :D, but i agree totaly why go to all the trouble when disco chassis ar available.
 
cant find good disco chassis in scotland all rusted and more welding than on mine. looked at a 3year old td 5 and it was split.. any new disco chassis about that would fit my old girl?
 
Sorry to sound dense but are disco chassis not available new? It seems easy to get a series chassis, galvanised or paint coated, but no disco ones???
 
how much do yo value your time at? if your chassis is unrepairable wouldnt it be best to buy another complete motable 200tdi and use the existing one for spares?

time a plenty..... lots of very nice extras on mine... just want a chassis......

It might be that a few years ago, the bodywork was rusty, but it had been repaired/patched up. If they did a good job and painted/protected it well, it would be difficult to spot the repairs especially if its muddy etc. Also if they did the sills and then refitted the sill trim, it would cover up a lot of the repaired area.
 
I find it hard to believe that a disco with a rotten chassis has a non rotten body. Like it says above disco chassis don't rust too badly. The body shells however..............
 
might have been used as a boat launcher salty water + steel but i would have thought you would have seen damage on the body.
But as everyone else has said it aint worth doing there are loads of discos about with good chassis and some of em have good bodies aswell
 
Yeah, as above I think you're basically out of options. Secondhand chassis isn't really any use unless it also comes with V5, registration details etc, due to the authorities tightening up on ringers. So you're left with finding a new chassis, which isn't going to be cost effective even if you do find one, given how cheap a reasonable Disco is, etc.
