Hi
I was wondering as to what size wheels I can put on my discovery 2 (04) without having to make any other mods to it.
The current set are 255 65 16.
Any recommendations for an all terrain tyre would also be appreciated...thanks

Ps
do discovery 3 wheels fit a 2?

i think the LZ tenner should be sent to the first genuine request for what's the largest tyres to fit me new D4

cough cough ... search

I did do a search prior to posting but I could find no ref to discovery 2 only disco 1 which is where your suggestion takes me back to where it clearly states "for disco 1 only"
Now if it is that 1 and 2 are the same then fine but I have no idea which is why I was asking for a bit of help...I to am sorry I even bothered and SEAN you seem a really bright chap you are obviously the backbone of this website

nope, am just one of the ligaments

Disco 2 and Disco 1 wheels are not compatible, Disco 2 studs are larger in diameter and run a smaller PCD than Disco 1.

You can fit RR Sport 19" rims with 255/55 R19's I think, we had those on our Disco 2 when we bought them but got shot of them as soon as we could, the ride was awful.

Air suspension on the RR hides a lot of wheel problems, but on a Disco you haven't got that.

Other rims will fit, the P38 RR wheels are the same hub fitting IIRC.

I have 255/55/18 on hurricane alloys on my TD5. They were standard fit and seem ok. I do however want to fit a more off-road biased tyre on next time and they are quite expensive for 18" wheels.

I have seen quite a few TD5's with RR/RR sport alloys on, so they must fit.

Standard sizes for Disco II are 255/65/16 & 255/55/18. In terms of AT tyres, BFG are probably the best but chunk money, General AT²'s are great as well and cheaper.

255/65/16 is an easier/cheaper tyre to find.

depends what you wanna do really
when you say all terrain, are you gonna be off roading alot?
I sold my 18's when i bought mine & got second hand 16's, which are now scuffed to buggery! But they go off road more than on so WTF.
I then had 235/70/16 muds-****e Insa Sahara's-may have been the size though.
Now I have a 40mm lift I run 265/75/16 Insa Dakars-love them...did me proud in Morocco
I have had no rubbing issues & havent had to modify any bodywork, although I have a winch bumper up front...doubt that size would fit a standard suspension set up though without catching the arches.

Thankyou all for some great answers.
At the moment I only go on the road but my tyres are getting low on tread so to give me a half fighting chance off road I thought all terrain would be a wise move for when I do try out my local 4x4 sites. Foss I bet Morocco was fantastic. How much in ball park terms did your trip cost. Did you go with a company or off your own back.

Sorry to butt-in, but on the subject of Morocco, I was there with a pal October 2008 and had a wonderful time.

Our total trip costs were 880 euros each. That includes everything, fuel ferries, accomadation the lot. Off course we were camping most of the time, but that adds to the magic in my book.

If you want to know more, have a look at the humyo link in my sig.

Incidently, on the tyres front: BFG AT's or General AT²'s and you'll go anywhere in Morocco.

It certainly was!
We went with Trailmasters (would highly recommend-unless you want to go with your own group)
Without preppin car, trip cost about £2500-1 vehicle/2 people-thats everything, food, fuel, camping, couple of hotels, both return ferries, insurance etc etc
Obviously, if you dont go with an organiser, you dont pay their fee...

Don't hesitate barndoor just do it.

There were loads of folks on the forums who said you need to prepare for a year or more, to have all the kit, all the toys etc etc.

Well I spoke to a pal who had done 4months in North Africa the previous year, he lent us his cooking box (pots plates etc) fridge and cooker, my mate and I negotiated how much we could afford to spend - we put that in the pot and off we went !!!!!

And we had a real adventure. We arrived in Morocco about 1 week after some terrible floods in the Todra and Dades Gorges and had a real challenge to get up them but it was worth it - I will remember it for the rest of my life.

Drinking mint tea in a Berbers tent in the Sahara Desert - how cool is that?

Generalisation I know, but we found the people in the south of the country much more friendly than in the north. Expect to see REAL poverty.

Very true on both counts...some baby wipes & he was clean as a whistle
