Pre facelift, 10p, manual TD5. I've followed the process but the mil light doesn't flash and the fuel pump doesn't kick in. Has anyone had this issue or what's the fix please. I'm chasing a poor morning start issue, new vdo pump and fuel filter housing recently installed. Once running it starts instantly even when left a while and drives really well all day without problem..
 
Just found out mine doesn't have the pump 5 times system being the early td5 🙄 obviously the problem is elsewhere so more reading required.. thanks anyway guys.

No such thing, all of them should do the trick no matter what year is the engine, try to pump it more than 5 times in one second sequences and throttle fully depressed/released each time...if still no joy might be a TPS or ECU issue...is the ECU the original? if you dont know check the label on it and tell me the part number

poor starting will be a leak somewhere. Common places to look for:

1. behind the fuel tank, near the chassis rail (passenger side, there is a nylon pipe that is known to break).
2. fuel filter housing can leak
3. check for a big leak from the the FPR, a tiny leak should not cause issues.
4. if there is nothing, leak can be from the injector seals, you will need to change those. only use genuine seals

you should also check if you have any oil in the red ecu plug as that can cause all sorts of issues.

I've replaced the fuel filter housing and filter..
Replaced the fuel pump (vdo unit).
No leaks from the FPR.
I've replaced the harness and cleaned the red plug. Checked twice since and it is oil free but will check again.
I've not checked the nylon pipe which I will do now as I was unaware of the issue.
I'll change the Injector seals as you suggested if the pipe is in good order 👍
 
Can you describe further the poor starting issue? If it does not randomly cut out it could also be a battery or earth issue. With the key turned on when the pump starts working (before starting the engine) check that you have good voltage, also try to add an earth from battery to body and listen if the pump changes the noise. That would mean the earth is foobar and the pump is not getting enough electricity

It does not randomly cut out, funnily enough the other day it was on level ground with a ctek trickle charger in place stating battery was full. Disconnected the charger and it started immediately. I will check the voltage tomorrow on the initial pump run as you suggest.

I've checked the voltage with the pump running as suggested first test 11.6v and again at 12.2 volts.
 
If your battery is a bit weak and the voltage drops under 10.5 when cranking then the injectors won't fire.
There is also a thing with starter motor affecting something...CPS signal maybe.
Voltage drop would be first suspect tho, and easy to rule out or confirm
