as long as you check the diff preload after

So I can just unbolt the the old (non diff) front out put from the transfer box and put the other one on? how can I check the pre load ?

This is the bit I am on about just incase

The main differential in the LT230 has preload set by a selectable shim that sits on top of the bearing that the front output housing holds in place, so swapping that housing over can either give you too little, the right amount, or too much - basically you can't guarantee that the housing is the exact same dimensions.

If you want to waste an hour or so of your time you can see a full rebuild & teardown of both the LT230 & an R380 in this thread -> https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/lt230-rebuild.247618/ the R380 comes first and the bit you're interested in is on page 23

James pretty much showed me how to do this and he might have a quick way to check the preload, but my guess is it won't be easy with the rear prop attached and the gearbox input shaft inserted into the LT230.
