Dear All,
I have just returned to Sweden after picking up a 2004 D2 TD5 Auto Diff Lock in Holland. I drove it back and all went pretty well. The TD5 did nine hundred kilometres smooth and cool.
The previous owner removed the centre silencer of the exhaust system and I think it is way to loud. It causes a reverbration in the cabin and after 900k I almost had tinnitus. I like a quieter ride as I want to hear the car operating and to be able to talk to the passenger.
I plan to install a central silencer again and would like your advice. Should I install the original factory silencer or another type of silencer such as a straight through model? Which silencer will provide the quietest solution?
In addition what else do I need to consider when replacing this component such as sensors etc?
Some additional information that may help. The engine has been stage 2 tuned, a larger intercooler installed and a sports down pipe placed on the exhaust system.
(I have updated the post with 4 pictures of each stage of the exhaust system from front to back).
Any advice you can offer would be gratefully appreciated.
Kind regards
