Gents,
When I started the old girl this morning I just got the the click!
3rd attemp I held the key in the start position and she eventually turned over- and away to work. Has a new bat- thinking the starter motor maybe on the way out- anyone had similar experience or got any advice?

To be more specific than Mr. Fanatic >> LANDROVER DISCOVERY TD5 STARTER MOTOR REPAIR KIT 98 on | eBay UK
It comes with fitting instructions too... this will definetly cure it.... u'll have to struglle a bit with the top bolt of the starter to remove it, the rest is pure fun.

Like the other guys have said, it sounds like you need a solenoid repair kit. Easy job to do once you have the starter motor off.

Remember it's held in place by 2 lower fixing bolts of 13mm and one upper fixing NUT of 15mm.

i had that too, i went to my local auto electrician and got the new plunger and contacts for less than a tenner! better than the £250 i was quoted for the new starter motor from my local landy specialist. even the top bolt wasn't bad to put back on when re fitting it!

Apart from the plunger and contacts the TD5 starter motors are generally pretty reliable. I too echo the sentiments of thems up there ^^^^^^.
