And i'm happy with two cartridges and 12 CD's although i did replace the Philips kit with Pioneer

right... so i popped into halfords on the way home tonight and found someone who knew quite a lot about the stereos on display! :)

The Ripspeed one actually looks quite nice. Bit suspicious of the price though, especially when it has that lovely screen on it! Makes me wonder quite how long it'll last. I don't suppose it matters much though - i'm sure it'll last a few years at least, and for £70 you can't argue!

Any idea whether the Ripspeed LCD screen still works in 40 degree summer (plausible inside the car) and -10 degree winter (like we just had)? Also, is that large screen put to good use when scrolling through artists, genres, songs etc... or is it always only one track on screen at a time (i.e. you can't browse in list form)?

As for how many tracks they can index, what the max SD card size is, what the max USB memory stick size is etc... they said I'm welcome to bring in such memory sticks etc... and just try it on the display unit in store, so when the time comes, I think i will!

In the mean time, I think i'll pay a visit to my nearest car audio place, wherever that is, and have a browse around there too!

I really really struggled to get my headunit into the hole.

Had to pull the wiring back out of the centre console whilst sliding the headunit in. Really not a lot of room in there.

Once all my teething problems are sorted I'll be chucking in some sound deadening and decent speakers. My headunit already controls every aspect of my iPod and also allows audio playback whilst watching video on the iPod touch.

PeteMoore sounds like its gonna be good

Btw the pics i put up are when the sstem was in the freelander not got any of the setup in the disco yet:doh::doh:

I won't be spending much, and it will all be hidden or at least look like original apart from the headunit.

I hate the blue interior, but I hate god awful aftermarket stuff being on display, even phone holders and satnav.

Hence my head unit controls the iPod, so it gets thrown in a cubbyhole with the iPod lead out of site.

Thats how i like things aswell I got a CB in the car and I had it on top of the dash it was there for about 2 months, it was getting on my nerve so its now above the window in my discovery.

ok, so I think i've decided. I either want a USB socket to plug in either a USB hard drive or a memory stick, or a head unit with an SD card socket that copes with 32GB SD cards!

The iPhone control feature sounds great, but i'll still have to plug in the iPhone every time I want to do it, and I won't be able to satnav simultaneously either, because the phone holder won't allow for the bottom socket to be plugged into the stereo.

So USB or SD it is!

Time to visit my local car audio place I think...... (or it would be if I hadn't already got rid of all my money this month, while still wanting rock sliders and many other things too!)

Hi, this is my first post on the forum however i thought i would reply as I've just fitted a Alpine CDA 117RA at a sub and amp to my disco 1 ES.
I would really recommend an Alpine unit as the build quality and sound quality is second to none. The best investment for your system is a head unit, I got mine from caraudiosecurity and I've used them for 3 of my cars and they are always helpful and genuinely want you to leave with the best solution. If you would like some pics of my install or any info just give me a shout.

Do yourself a favour and check out the alpine head units... You will be glad you did !

Cheers Matt
