To be honest, you will get more light where you want it but fitting Aux lights - plenty places to fit them ;)

Some people do modify the wiring so they can both come on safely.

Benefits - better illumination of the road directly in front of you.
Drawbacks - lamps (bulbs) don't last as long.

You need to setup a circuit for a relay that is switched by the full beam circuit, this then feeds the dipped beam circuit too via a fused live supply (directly from the battery would be fine).

The negative needs to be replaced with a cable rated to at least 12 amps (built in saftey factor of 20%) I would go for 15 amps. For this, I'd just undo the old one, and run 2 new ones to a good earth point or better, the battery. This is a common modification to do anyway as it ensures the headlights get a good earth and work at full capacity.

Why? There is no need. Just do the light mods as described in the FAQ section and fit +90 or +120 bulbs in the headlights.
Roof lights just give huge glare down the screen and over the bonnet :(.
