Right . . I have a 94 discovery 1 200tdi auto, only had this about a month now and been using it off road.

Im aware of the High and Low ratios for offroading, but it also says on the lever, Diff Lock. . .is this engaded when put into lows and am i meant to have a light come up on the dash board?

Im aware that when in diff lock, it stops just one wheel from spinning? I think  but when I was off roading at the weekend and in lows, one wheel was spinning when i was getting stuck??

I fell in a whole, trying to get round to jump my friend range that cut out:

Cheers for the help in advanced

Just to be clear
the leaver goes to the left and then forward to engage diflock ( low range diflock) or to the left and back (high range diflock) as for a light on the dash? maybe probably not

your disco has 3 difs one on the back another on the front, and lastly one bolted on the back of the gearbox / transfer case, the diflock you are playing with is the one at the back of the gearbox ( middle of the car)

With out this engaged, one wheel will spin, with this engaged one front and one rear wheel will spin. If you only had one wheel spinning, then it was not engaged.

Not to be confused with after market diflocks that can be added to either or both the front and rear difs as well

You obviously never had one t bits then ?

theres no gate on the difflock selection !it just moves left or right !

and yes it should bring up a yellow light on the dash!

no, it in back position all the time. . . and then push forward for lows? or do i not have a diff lock just high and low gearing?

hmm it move forward and back? and no light on my dash. . .maybe the lights out??

basically in the pick the front wheel in the air was moving as was the opisite wheel in the water on the passanger side at the back?! i was in low diff lock according to the stick.

pull your head in boy
had a few to bits, driven more

its a tdi 200 do its a bit long in the tooth, good chance the bulb has blowen it is a pommy wagon any way.

and yes there is no gate, but then this poster doint know that, if he pushes the lever forward left and forwrd again, just like engaging first gear he should hit diflock low, second diflock high, 3rd low no diflock 4th high no diflock. simple for a newbie aye

aye that would suggest yer center diff wer locked so yer light could either be a bulb or more likely it the switch/wire on the transfer box

ok so 2 wheels spinning oposite cnrs, sounds like you were in diflock, possably the next trick would have been could you stop one of these wheels from spinning no = diflock

right im an auto box. . i got gears:
1
2
3
D
N
R
P

i then have a gear stick for highs and lows. . .in highs all the time for driving about. . . .lows if meant to be difflock?

little instruction sticker says

put in nutral, push forward for diff lock?!?

with a bit of gas on, the frount spinning wheel would stop (break bias) and the back would keep on spinning = no dif lock

ahhh not it wouldnt stop kept going. . so i think must be in diff lock and must have a light out on the dash or no light at all

cheers :)

OK forget about the auto

the little Gear lever think of it like this

low lock...........................low no lock
.....................neutural

High lock..........................high no lock

like an H patern Gate gear shift

or as i tryed to exsplane before, 1st gear = low lock second gear = high lock 3rd gear = low no lock 4 th gear = high no lock, all on the short gaer lever

but as the othere poster pointed out if you are in low range, just push the gain to the left as a second movent, the lever will move about 3" to the left,

try that

If it's never been engaged before it will be seized solid (the lever that is) and won't go in.

this is what i was worried about  it the H patten as said above. . now can i hit it in with a hammer? or do i need to do this properly?

pervious owner was a old couple who used it for caravaning and it was difficult to get it into lows :(
