Just when I thought I was going to have a day off from the spanners too!

Cheers Zeaphod, I shall take a look later on and see what I can find. Hopefully just some funky wiring, like most of my problems ;)

As mentioned earlier diff lock light is staying on - I lifted one front wheel and moved diff lock lever to both left and right and in both cases wheel only turned a little and I had it out of gear - so diff lock must be on all the time - I tried reversing and driving on the grass with two wheels and on full lock but to no avail - does anyone know how to rectify the problem and why it does this - going on a very long trip soon so need to resolve the problem quickly - thanks for any help - am I able to drive this to my mechanic who is 30 miles away!.

could just be the linkages. stick you head under/ take off floor pans and manually move the lever to see if it works.

Thanks for the reply and will try that - do you think that there is a good chance that lubricating the levers could solve the problem and do you think this could have been caused by dropping the gearbox to replace the clutch fork.

Wouldn't have thought that changing the clutch would cause it, unless it wasn't set up properly if the gearbox was taken out.

I think sometimes the selector just needs a bit of lubricating as it can stick. You should be able to see the little rod that turns the lever on the top of the transfer box that puts the lock on.

Personally I wouldn't drive it on the road with the diff lock on

It should be this little lever that engages the diff lock:

who knows what went on under there.. i wouldn't have thought it would be touched though.

they can get jammed up with mud and rust or get worn and have lots of slop.

i can't remember, you might be able to reach it from the middle seat panel.

Just had a look - lever underneath moves in and out ok as far as I can see quite freely but wheel raised again shows diff lock still on!.

try turning the diff lock spigot nut with a 13mm spanner anti clockwise, it should release diff lock unless its jammed internally ,if it releases linkage needs checking or adjusting

Apparently after gearbox was refitted two rubber washers were missing of the bolt on the diff lock lever leaving it to wobble too much - now need to take inside apart to get to it all.

You can replace the 2 plastic washers and clip from underneath. Just had mine to bits today. It is tight but can be done.

All done and working now but still think I may have driven a few thousand miles with diff lock on - if I did what would wear first - front prop was found to be knackered so has been replaced but what else would have taken the strain - particularly as going on another long 6 week trip in a few days!.
