Hi

As still a noobie to the landrover world I want to know if all discovery 300 tdi's have diff lock?

The signs on mine are obvious I.e a sticker with diff lock on it.

I have been told that the td5 had limited slip diffs and with mine being a 1999 300 it may have those.

I'm pretty sure that mine is ultimately seized up. But thought I would ask as to be honest I don't have a clue as of yet.

Also can you tell if you are already in diff lock (I know about the light on the dash it's not on) I get a whine at about 45 mph probably unrelated but thought I'd ask

Thanks in advance

All D1s have diff lock, D2s don't have limited slip diffs and tell us where the whine is coming from.

The whine sounds like its coming from the back of the truck. Only whines under acceleration in any gear. I know I need to replace the donut as its starting to split. But don't think that's the cause.

whine could possibly be rear diff.
when engaging difflock, put it in neutral and take your foot off the clutch entirely. if it hasnt been engaged for a while it may be hard to move into position.
id advise checking the fluid in transfer box and gearbox buddy

I'm gonna replace the fluid in all the boxes and grease as many nipples as I can find. The diff selector is jammed I can only move forward and back so I'm gonna strip it down in the morning. Sick of taking the bloody center console out haha. Cant wait to play with a working diff. haha. Thanks for all the help guys.

if it will engage forwards and back you have hi and low range, if you slot it into 'neutral' then push left and forward it should go into low rang diff lock and vice versa left and back for hi range diff lock. just incase you were trying to push it accross without going to the neutral position.

All 300's have difflock.

And there is absolutely no need to engage Neutral inorder to engage it. I'vbe never heard such ****e in my life.. Hoiw dangerous would it be, if you have to go into neutral whilst driving downhill and realise that you need to engage difflock??

"oh it's ok I'll just freewheel down the hill whilst I faff about engaging Difflo!!!!!!!crunch, bounce roll splat, oh ****!!!! Well now we're at the bottom. we don't need diffllock anyway". :rolleyes.

as above diff locks designed to be engaged on the move even if you select it on the lever it wont engage till its all aligned,it was designed to be engaged on the move if required, just not if any wheel is spinning

Currently stripping a transfer box, thought the spring arrangement for the diff lock baulk ring thingy was very nice idea/design :)

Dog clutch, right you are.

We took a while to work out what was going on and then ahhh very nice :)

success i now have diff lock haha. Took ages to get it to free but worth it in end im putting it all back together in the morning. time for a rest and a well deserved drink :) Thanks for the help guys.

i shall test then bud, i alway knock to neutral to engage low rang etc, havent had to engage it on the move, sorry for the misguided view

I have to have mine in 1st and release clutch slightly to ingauge difflock and same again to get back into high.:)

I think you mean to get in to low rather than difflock.
Difflock can be engaged whilst in high or low and is completely independent of the high/low selection.
Unless you drive a series that is
