My disco does't have the diff lock. THis doesnt bother me but was interested to know why some have it and some dont?

is it only found on the manual version?

series 2 disco's had traction control instead - diff-lock was re-introduced in 2003 i think ( do a search for 'diff lock' - there are lots of posts about it )

As Burtonboy say's, the diff lock was deleted in favour of letting the traction control take over on the S2, probably due to muppets leaving the thing in and driving the kids to school and grenading the diff's/transfer box halfway down the road.

I don't know if it was re-introduced later, my wallet dont stretch to a later one, and the way this one's currently gobbling my hard earned, probably not in the forseeable future.

I think I've seen a thread on it being retro-fitted if you need it though.

check out the conversion kit from ashcroft: Ashcroft Transmissions

they fit a certain range of transfer case which included the diff lock mechanisim but no lever... the serial number stamped on the transfer box will give it away.

I have an 03 td5 es auto facelift which doesn't have the difflock.Had a word with Land Rover last time it was in for service. They told me that it was reintroduced but as an optional extra.
