hi
1996 Disco 1 300TDI auto
I just had to do some welding etc for MOT, after completing the work I tried to move but the transmission brake was stuck on! I stripped it down and found the cable was siezed. As i had to wait for parts shop to open after New Year I had to move my Disco so I put diff lock on.
I put everything back together today but when i tried to take diff locks off the dash light has stayed on??? H/L lever is very stiff too.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance
Taz

Why did you put diff-lock on??? I don't understand.

If you moved it on tarmac or a grippy surface with the diff-lock engaged you've probably caused transmission wind up, and it wont come out off diff-lock until you've got the transmission to unwind.

Not any help, but i have opposite.....my diff light no longer works, but i know its engaging and locking up as i have tested it....

Go back the way you came, so if you drove forward and left, go back in the same direction or jack a wheel up and it should spin by itself.

i drove it with the rear prop off, will that make a difference? only 20/30 yards forwards and backwards

Did it release the handbrake when you moved it?

If not then Steve is likely right, there's possibly still transmission wind-up 'cos the difflock locks the front and rear axles, so if the rear axle isn't connected, but a stuck hand/transmission brake is, it'll wind the trans up ... Try jacking the front end off the floor and spinning the wheels, with and without diff lock, see what happens.

How did you get on Taz ?
I've had the same problem. I drove from Boroughbridge to York with it on and even though it was disengaged the light stayed on until I got home.
It went off by itself and the diff lock disengaged by itself.
I decided not to use it again but now I've read this thread I'll be more confident next time it's needed.

Landyzone is a necessity !:tea:
