HI, I’m having trouble removing the front oil seal on the rear diff. I don’t really want to take the whole diff apart. Are there any knacks/tips on how to get it out.

For some reason it won't allow me to upload the photo

My old method used for many years was just a big screwdriver across the face of the seal passing the side of the shaft and hooking under the seal lip. A whack on the handle pops the seal out
Recently I have used an oil seal removal tool, Find on the Fleabay

That looks a bit kiff, Mine has a solid strong handle you can lean on as much as needed.

Yeah it is a bit sh1t. I managed to get it out. Think is was the original as fully metal.

Thanks for all your help.

Merry Xmas.

I was going to say if it is the original metal one they are fun to get out. I thought I had broken something when I took the first one out because It broke and I thought I had chewed up a spacer. I think I just used a screwdriver and a hammer, lots of swearing. No really, lots and lots of swearing.

The original seals can be a cow - they were made properly, and will have grown in to the casting over the years - so significant force and plenty of blue air is often required ..

OP - I thought Bergen tools were "OK" - I'd see if you can send that back .. lets them know it was rubbish, and then you can get a better one ;)

Land rovers do give you a good like in swears and, on occasion, the chance to make up new ones when the existing ones just don't cut it.
