What rpm is it idling at? Can you see the FIP timing modulation on your diagnostics?
I have to keep it idling at 1500 when the revs drop below to tick over it cuts out and idles very very low.

Not done diagnostics on it running yet have just install ecu.

Good news is it starts.

What could common issue be?

EGR valve stuck open if fitted, Fip timing out. Lots of possibilities, I would want to see what diagnostics show.

Not got EGR the pump was static timed when put new chains and that on but I prob not done it right.

Diagnostics wise is that live data or run diagnostic on EMS?

Diagnostics check for fault codes and look at FIP modulation on live data.
 
Idle control is not active. When throttle pot is at 9% or less idle control is activated. This involves CPS, ECU and quantity control servo, an engine speed signal is sent to ECU from CPS, the ECU then adjusts quantity control servo to maintain 750 RPM + - 50 RPM. As the engine is loaded fuel is increased as the load is removed fuel is reduced, idle should be rock steady at 750 RPM. The idle control is a function of the ECU. Idle can only be adjusted with diagnostics. But if the idle control is not active that cannot be done.

Thanks @wammers is it worth checking FIP timing again assume can be done insitu and use RAVE?

Sure can but i doubt that is the problem. If for instance the CPS was faulty the engine would be revving at +2000 RPM as the number four injector is being used for engine speed and it only sends a signal every two revolutions. Obviously quantity servo is ok or you would not be able to maintain 1500 RPM. Problem is with idle control. Either idle switch on throttle pot or ECU.

Thanks the ECU was tested and checked on another P38 was idling ok. Is the idling switch easy to change?
 
Ok just tidying engine back up will run it and do diagnostic

You mentioned earlier that the ECU was not initially properly located. Disconnecting battery and unplugging ECU spraying connector with contact cleaner and engaging and disengaging ECU connector a few times then blowing off with air and reconnecting may solve your problem.

Just done diagnostics came up with fault 136 fuel actuators circuit?
